According to sources close to the player, regardless of his knee problems, Roy's decision to retire wasn't all health related. 'There's something to it, but it's not the right time for me to get into it right now,' Roy said. 'I've been doing some treatment and I'm trying to leave the window open to returning to basketball.'

Kind of interesting.

Didn't we hear about Roy being in Spain a few months ago? That proved to be a hoax.

No way he's coming back... but I would like to hear what this 'something to it' means.

Now I'm glad we amnestied him and not a medical retirement.

Just heard Roy's own voice on 750 The Game talking about new treatments that could get him back on the court.

He didn't say he's coming back, but he didn't rule it out, either.

To me, this says it all:

"Last year, while playing his fifth and final season for the Blazers, Roy played in 53 games, averaging 11.9ppg, 2.5rpg and 2.8apg."

Those numbers are about half of what he averaged 2 - 3 seasons prior. And, his knees got progressively worse over the course of the season. Even if he can comebak and play a little, he's not likely to be close to the player he once was. Sure, he could pull a Darius Miles and play a few games, but can he actually have a worthwhile comeback, or will he just fail miserably and tarnish his reputation? I wish him well, but as Natebishop3 said, it's a good thing we amnestied him. Otherwise, if he had medically retired like Miles, he could play 10 games and wipe out our imaginary cap space, and with his contract, could also force the team to pay significant luxury tax.

well if he's coming back, it's not here. Would be weird seeing him elsewhere.

Yep, we can't resign a player we amnestied.

At least not for the length of the amnestied contract.

That said, I really hope Brandon doesn't try to play. Memphis did Darius Miles harm by allowing the sham of him playing on no knees.

Sure would hurt if he went to a place like OKC, where he doesn't have to be the man but could still make an impact. Or Miami, maybe NYK or the Lakers. Ugh..

Hey Ed O.

Since you've become such a stickler for thread titles, how about changing this one so we don't have to answer the same questions about Roy and the Amnesty Clause in two different threads?

kthnx
