noun
  1. the physical qualities that are characteristic of athletes, such as strength, fitness, and agility.
"what he lacks in stature, he more than makes up for with speed and athleticism

Best amateur athlete in State of Oregon now is J Herbert.
Can throw a fast ball 90 mph, All league & State basketball, not to shabby as a QB.
danny Ainge is still the best overall though from OR.
Scratch Golfer
Competitive swimmer when younger
Great BB Player
Outstanding QB
Outstanding at Tennis & Soccer
Oh...Round Ball

Meyers may be high school athletic, or slam dunk contest athletic.

He is not NBA athletic. Reaction time and agility are a component of that.

Bingo.

He runs pretty well in a straight line, but BBall requires more than that. He looks good in shorts, so I guess that is enough to fool some fans. He is sort of the NBA equivalent of 90s wrestlers like Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior.

Some fans are still waiting for the unicorn to appear? Really? :biglaugh:

Per36 is helpful to break stuff down on a minute per minute basis and can be used as a solid gauge if including with the context of how many minutes the player actually played and whether they played primarily against starting or bench lineups.

In the case of Meyers Leonard, it can also be akin the extrapolating Usain Bolt's sprint time to his per-mile time.

Per-36 Meyers may look pretty good. Per mile Usain Bolt does a 2 minute mile.

The only key difference is that Bolt is at least good at what he does - Leonard, adequate is the top-end of his categories.

Gramps...

Lmao. Sorry, but that's a horrible comparison.

It's impossible to sprint at full speed for 1600m. It's not impossible to have enough stamina to be able to have production over 36 minutes that's close to production over 18 minutes.

Like I said, you have to combine it with context.

Information is not knowledge,
Knowledge is not wisdom,
Wisdom is not truth,
Truth is not beauty,
Beauty is not love,
Love is not music (Music is the best!).
Wisdom is the domain of the Wizz (which is extinct).

That's two separate quotes, actually. "The Knowledge is not wisdom quote" is from Joe's Garage. It's on the album sleeve, I believe. I don't know where the "Wisdom is the domain of the Wizz," comes from.

Wish i could find it, but there was a game where Meyers bricked a three and the entire crowd facepalmed and shook it's head.

Looks so much better than Zach so far this preseason. I'd give Meyers all of the backup C minutes and cut down on Collins' time wherever possible.

This season I had planned to sometimes type about Zach Collins, "He is no Ed Davis," but I now see it will be, "He is no Meyers Leonard."

Does this thread deserve revival after tonight? Or are we just saying, "it's just the Kings! "?

I posted part of this in the game thread but it applies here too:

Leonard is so comfortable on offense. Aside from his shooting I just feel comfortable when he receives a pass. He has a high bb IQ on that one side of the ball. He also looked decent on the boards tonight. Bottom line is he is good enough for our 3rd string center. I do not feel scared when he enters the game because he is not a turnover machine. He is what he is....an extra big body with offensive skills. Overpaid yes, but aside from that he can fill in when needed.

Meyers set to become the first 70/70/70 player in NBA history. He finished the preseason 78% from the field, 73% from 3 point land, and 75% from the FT line. Incredible.

He's playing with confidence for the first time in seven years.

Here's to hoping that he makes a PHX-Frye type of leap.

I don’t know why people are shitting on Meyers for finally showing he can be a rotation player. Sure he’s not amazing or anything, his defense is still mostly a mess, but he’s actually been quite good on offense. There is literally nothing bad that can come from Meyers playing well.

It's what the cool kids do.

Yep, he played "well" over a small sample size last year. If he can continue that level of production over a larger sample size, that's a huge win for POR. People need to remember he is a back up center. All back up centers are flawed. If they were't they'd be starting centers. Meyers defense is clearly flawed, but there is no denying he can contribute on the offensive end, even if all he does is create spacing for his teammates.

I thought this last game zach looked pretty good.
His toughness is unquestionable after taking that shot and coming back fierce. He had several great defensive plays in the paint and both his mid range and three point shot looked more comfortable and fluid. He had a great post move and grabbed some rebounds.
I thought meyers collins looked good together actually and id play them both as backup four and five and see if they can really gel

Zack look decent last night, it obvious he has the fortitude and talent to become a solid NBA big.
Imagine when you were 20 and you went up against guys mid-late 20s or even older.
I love the grit he plays with and I think in a year or so, less injuries he will breakout.

Thank god this opinion isn’t coming from Stotts.

Meyers vs. Zach isn't an either/or proposition. We need them both to play well. We saw them play well together last night. Yes, it was against the Kings, but it's a start.
