And now...the Official Blocks per Minute Database!

In which we find which 7-footers had seasons in which their Blocks per Minute was below .01.

For those numerically challenged...that means less than one block per 100 minutes. The biggest perpetrator was Bill Cartwright.

The amazing thing with this is you can take it all the way down to 83 minutes played over an entire season and Quagmeyers is still the only 7 footer to not have a single block, and he did it in 254 minutes. It's actually a pretty remarkable statistic. You would think some shitty rookie or washed up has-been playing out a contract would have been more useless at blocking shots, but nope, our $40 million 5th year veteran "center" stood alone. He might have the most comically bad contract signed with us in Blazers' history. It's got to be right there with Damon Stoudamire's extension.

Anyway, I absolutely love what I'm seeing in preseason with him. (Maybe he's just a ludicrously slow learner?) Yeah, he's still useless at any kind of defense unless it's against another big in the post, but kind of in the same way Ed Davis was useless at everything offensive beyond about 4 feet from the rim. We're replacing a backup center who only plays on one end of the court with another backup center who only plays on one end of the court. It's not a wash, but it's not as bad as I feared.

You lost me at “high basketball IQ”
Yeah Meyers might be the most mentally busted NBA player Ive ever seen. On offense his shot is so slow that every time he gets the ball you can tell he’s thinking can I get it off even when he’s open. On defense he reminds me of my 4 year old, she just kind of wanders around and is ready to get the ball back.

This is a much meaner sounding post than its meant to be, because I want all the Blazers to succeed, but Meyers my goodness...

Apply this to Meyers.

I love Arsenal Fan TV! Troopz is great!

"I've had it Robbie! I swear! Blud. Every phucking year! He's a phuuking phraud!"

I'm a Man City fan but I love those guys. It's kind of sad Wenger had to retire but they are doing really well now under new management.

Good post, but...Davis wasn't slow on offense, like Leonard is on defense. Davis' worst seasons shooting the 3-10 foot range were in Portland. Now freed from Stotts, he shoots from 3-10 feet better than he shoots the 0-3 foot range.

He is a good shooter. Shooting success is not the same thing as shooting range.

(As of right now after Oct. 31 games, Davis leads the Nets in PER, as does Vonleh for the Knicks. Olshey gave away both.)

Meyers has been ok in the minutes he’s got this year.
What I want to see is Zach at PF, Chief at SF, and Meyers alternating at C with Nurk to keep fresh energetic defense of AD at all times, especially the 2nd and 4th quarters.

After the strong challenge that the Pelicans gave the Warriors, consistent defense and efficient offense are likely needed for this important win. This will be a nice time for the improved defense and high accuracy swish3 scoring of Meyers to emerge.

The Blazers should aim for at least 45 points from swish3s and 130 total points in this game. Maximizing swish3 scoring power by having Meyers, Zach, and Nik on the floor can win this game. We always count on Dame and CJ for points, and need to add some powerful scoring to get this win.

Oh yeah let's just put Meyers out there on Davis, great idea !

Meyers has extremly slow reactions resulting in him playing terrible defense. On offense he doesn't shoot attempting 6 field goals per 36 minutes, last on our team. He is one of if not the absolute worst players currently on an NBA roster.

He is now in his 7th year and still sucks, but his next Year will be his breakout year Fams!

Not to mention his hesitation to do the one thing he evidently does well. Swanigan has deficiencies, quite a few, but at least he has an idea of what to do on a basketball court.

This is the stat you use to argue that he is the worst player in the NBA......that he doesn't shoot that much? More so than someone who can't actually make a shot when he does shoot? I think you may be embellishing a little.

High praise indeed!

Seriously, it's like the haters STILL want him to fail so they can be proven right. Honestly guys, how much more proof do you need? Six years not enough for you?

How about we all just accept Meyers for what he is (and isn't) and consider anything positive he does on the court an unexpected bonus?

Anything negative he does shouldn't come as any surprise. After six years we are all painfully aware of his shortcomings, but go on haters, feel free to remind us for the millionth time what we can all see with our own eyes.

BNM
I must be a glass half full person, because when Meyers is on the court I'm looking for what he does right. I think there are things he does that helps the team, and I think he does a lot fewer things that make me cringe. I don't know how to do a quantitative analysis on the subject, but I see him helping a lot more than he's hurting. What I like is that he is focusing on doing the kinds of things that help make his teammates successful, even though it doesn't show up in his personal stats. Like setting screens, facilitating the offense, making timely passes, drawing defenders, boxing out. He's even caused or contributed to several opposition turnovers that I've seen. There's just no sense actually hating on the guy at this point. Although the occasional Meyers joke is ingrained in our culture, so that's cool ;)

Bill Cartwright and James Edwards? I would not have guessed that.

Obviously Meyers is not going to have a breakout season. His goal, and our expectations, should be a useful backup with a long but unremarkable career.

My expectation is I never see him on the court ever again and his contract quietly expires.

Do not forget that Meyers is the NBA playoffs swish3 percentage record holder (76.9% with at least 10 swish3s made) who also made 75% on Oct 12, and in that game was 7 of 8 FG with 17 points and 9 rebounds.

Meyers should shoot at least 6 swish3s in each game, and keep shooting them if he makes 3 or more. I agree that he does contribute screens, spacing, and assists, and can defend AD and other bigs. I focus on the achievements and his improvements.

If the Blazers alternate Meyers and Nurk at center today, I expect a good chance for 32-38 points from the center position and a win over the Pelicans.

Hi Meyers, how was your summer?
Do you expect to play today instead of Biggie?
