Is Miami a contender?

The irony is that this is a troll thread.

No irony. He very clearly acknowledged that he was trolling. I know it, you know it, he knows it.

He's also very, very good at it.

Clearly they need to send LeBron back to Cleveland for that no. 1 pick.

On a serious note, since we never defined the word "contender", I have to say ... I don't know!

Heheheheheh!

Well played, Eric, well played indeed.

They're down 3-1 vs Spurs like we were. I'm not sure Miami was ever a contender.

That would be funny if this was not their 4th straight NBA finals. You know 1 more in a row than we have in our history. Even if they lose they will have 1 more title in 4 years than we have in our history.

That is great trolling right there.

So you are saying replacing Mike Miller and Joel Anthony with Michael Beasley and Greg Oden was a bad idea?

No it was funny regardless. The topic has absolutely nothing to do with Miami's franchise history. I think we all know the point he was making.

Lakers and Celtics have been to more Finals than Miami. Does that mean Lakers and Celtics were contenders this year?

Is either playing in the finals right now? Nope they are sitting at home same as Portland. Whether or not Miami can actually win the series is debatable but until that final horn sounds and the Spurs win one more game then absolutely they are contenders.

Make sure to look behind you when you are stepping back. Safety first.

Some people said we weren't contenders when we were still in playoffs. We were a contender this year and we will be a contender next year.

We looked more tender than contender.

The NBA needs to seed teams 1-16. Miami would've been exposed in round 2 just as the two time defending champ Lakers were exposed against Dallas in 2010.

We were NOT contenders this year. No one knows if we will be next year.

After they lose all their guys to free agency this summer, we will be more of a contender.

I think the Blazers have as good a shot at the WCF as the other contenders for the WCF, except for the Spurs.

Until we at least have a puncher's chance at beating the Spurs in a playoff series, we aren't true contenders for an NBA championship, IMO.

By that measure, neither are the Heat! :)

I guess it all depends upon your definition of "contender".

The Blazers finished tied for the 5th best record in the league. They beat Houston, who was also tied for the 5th best record in the league. They had the same record as Miami that made it to the finals and had an inflated records being located in a weak conference.

Out of 30 teams in the league, I certainly like those numbers.

I think because the Blazers are in a loaded Western conference, our road to the championship was much tougher than Miami's. But if you look at this year and consider Miami a contender, then I say you have to call the Blazers a contender also.

Next year? Absolutely contenders!
