For ABM: it was just my way of saying, man, your list of candidates sucks, what a bunch of losers. Although I think I put it more poetically the first time.

Fair enough.

Who are you considering?

Fair enough.

Who are you considering?

I'm considering Obama, until some better option comes along.

^ Exactly what Barney Frank said. Word for word. Even the stuff about ABM.

Yes, but that's because he's copying me. I'm so tired of him getting his talking points from me.

I fully admit I haven't followed the Rise of Newt here, but wasn't he "dead" after the straw polls? Something like he'd stopped campaigning, his staff quit, he was out of money, getting 1% of the polls, etc? What happened?

It does go to show you that the Brian Hypothesis of Presidential Prognostication is still valid...in February or March there will be 2 or 3 candidates with a shot, one of whom we're not even talking about right now...and the breathless 24/7 coverage of the "race" is taking away from the real issues.

For instance, Bachmann is a US Congresswoman. What kind of legislation is she pushing to make the country better right now? What kind of committee work? Is she pushing budget proposals to the SuperCommittee? Or is she talking to cameras? How much gover-nating is Perry doing? What DOES Romney do nowadays?

The latter. I believe I read she hasn't even cast a vote since her vote against increasing the debt ceiling back in August. Even before that, she was a singularly inconsequential congressperson.

Perry: no one has any reason to care outside of Texas (and Texans apparently are willing to accept absolutely anyone as governor).

Romney: Running for President has been his full-time job for the last six or seven years.

“Officials familiar with his work at Freddie Mac say that his role had nothing to do with lectures in history and everything to do with building relationships with Republicans on Capitol Hill. I have to ask you, isn’t that lobbying?”

“He was clearly there as a lobbyist, and slipped and acknowledged that you don’t enhance your academic credentials by serving as Speaker, you enhance your value as a lobbyist,” Frank said.

He's got you there barfo, although I'm not sure how

The way I've read it, this is the issue. ABM started the thread hoping to glean some knowledge from all of you intelligent folks. Instead he received responses like the above. In other words instead of posting "a bunch of losers" maybe explain why this is so. :dunno:

Ding! Ding! Ding!

Nice to have a voice of reason aboard.

Why exactly isn't Obama a clown? Or a flip flipper? First he was for a public option, then he was against it. Gitmo's still open for business. The list is pretty long.

Why is Bachmann any less qualified than Hillary or Obama?

I think a little focus on the other side doesn't do them any favors, either.

He doesn't wear giant shoes, or paint his face, or wear a red plastic nose.

You could make the same charge against anyone who as served as president. Nobody ever fulfills all their campaign promises.
What makes Romney a 'flip flipper' is that he says different things to different audiences apparently for the sole purpose of getting elected.
That's different than finding out that closing Gitmo is more difficult than imagined.

Why is Bachmann any less qualified than Hillary or Obama?

Both Hillary and Obama were Senators. Bachmann's highest elected office is Representative, generally considered a lower office, and less of a qualification for President, since Reps rarely get elected President (Garfield).

I think a little focus on the other side doesn't do them any favors, either.

But then, this thread is about Newt. Not Barney, not Barack. Newt.

Obama did and still does say what he thinks the crowd wants to hear. He was elected Senator, but didn't "senate" much.

And in post #13, you changed the subject from "Newt" to "all the options you have."

Well, your options aren't so hot, either.

Now THAT's a classic barfoism.

Mr. Detractor strikes again.

Already stipulated in post #29.

Well, your options aren't so hot, either.

I'm not too worried about your opinion of my options. You represent the fringe of the fringe of the fringe.

"fringe.". Opinion surveyed by the democrats and parotted by barfo.

http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politi...ewt-Gingrich-Where-does-his-support-come-from

........“Gingrich’s support is heavily concentrated among Republicans who are at least 50 ... This pattern may reflect the fact that he has been out of office for more than a decade, and thus a less familiar figure to young Republicans,” writes Gallup’s Jeffrey Jones.

He also gets the highly educated crowd. Among GOP voters with postgraduate degrees, his support has risen from 10 percent to 28 percent in the USA Today/Gallup survey.

The highly educated "had been the education group that gave him his lowest support; now they give him the highest,” writes USA Today’s chief political scribe Susan Page.

Hmm. Perhaps older people don’t mind it so much when Gingrich floats some of his out-there solutions, such as paying poor elementary kids to serve as janitors in their schools so that they can earn pocket money and have a stake in the school’s appearance.

Other recent polls show similar demographic results. A Fox News survey released last week shows Gingrich leading all Republicans among GOP voters with at least a college degree, for instance. He also leads among self-described conservatives, and is tied with Mitt Romney at 25 percent among Republican voters who make more than $50,000 per year.

The Fox News poll also asked an unusual question: Which Republican hopeful would GOP voters most trust with nuclear weapons?

The answer? You guessed it. Ashton Kutcher! Just kidding. It was Newt. Fully 30 percent of the Republican electorate picked him as the candidate whose hand they’d most want near the button. Among other contenders, only Romney was even close, at 17 percent.

Newt's not-very-well-thought-out plan would put the current janitors (the fathers of those poor elementary school kids) out of work and onto unemployment, which would cost the taxpayers even more and teach the kids that they have no future in this society.

I think some people don't see cost effective and long term cost effective issues very clear.

The more we educate a populace, the better we are as a society.

There ya go, thinking downward again, MARIS.

I mean, just think, when I was a paperboy of a mere 12-years-old, I was putting GROWN MEN out of work! The shame of it all!!

you are aware that you're comparing different job types, right?

grown men tend to not have paper routes (although there are adults who do paper delivery), whereas adults tend to be the janitors. Not only because there are a lot of physical labor involved, there are chemicals and hazardous materials involved.

When was the last time you saw a kid doing a janitor job?

Never.

When was the last time I saw a kid doing a paper route? Well, not for a long time actually. But you're making a comparison that isn't really accurate.

I was being factetious as all get-out.

Having kids help out around their respective schools - doing some various janitorial duties as to help them gain some pride and appreciation, certainly isn't gonna kill the janitorial industry.

The sky's the limit as to how they might be able to contribute.

Yeesh, julius! ;)

you gotta stop being semi joking when I'm thinking you're semi serious! otherwise we'll be running in a semi circle!

Sorry, I apologize for that.

It's just, to me, MARIS' response seemed so obviously ludicrous.
