and good for you!

Don't get me started about the new girlfriend.

..and, thanks. :)

No kidding? Fantasy world? Really?

repealing child labor laws so as to have poor children displacing Janitors is not an idea that is appealing towards the moderates of this country.... sorry. Newt has never been anything close to a consensus builder. Historically he is 180 degrees from a politician that has brought folks together. If you're doing digging on him as you claim, I don't know how one can miss what a vapid fraud this guy has been compared to what he's espoused.

STOMP

I claim ignorance in that I was overseas/not connected to the world for most of Clinton's term, but wasn't Newt the Speaker of the House who worked with Clinton to get all of Clinton's policy passed?

Yes, I'm still digging. Will be keeping my eyes/ears open as I progress.

Thanks

I wasn't able to catch tonight's Iowa Debate, but ABC appears to be saying that Gingrich won it.

Did anyone here watch it?

I watched it. I didn't think Newt was a run away with the debate, but the consensus that although he just didn't want to lose ground as the front runner, he actually gained ground. Guess Romney doesn't have much charisma, but I liked him more than Newt.

What the country needs at this time is someone who can inspire people of both parties and the masses. Newt isn't it, Obama isn't it, Romney isn't it, and Hillary isn't it.

I don't see anyone out there, and it's actually rare that a JFK or Reagan or FDR comes along.

The Donald thinks he be it.

I thought Rudy might be the guy, but he was a terrible campaigner. His successor, Bloomberg, appears quite competent, but I don't see him as making anyone want to salute when he enters the room.

Too short.

Just wait for 2016. There are far more charming candidates in the GOP.

I think they're setting themselves up for 2016, by both allowing Obama to win AND (in their eyes) allowing him to mess things up more.

Don't know who the Democrats would run in 2016. It's doubtful it'd be Biden, and I doubt it'd be Clinton. Is there a young up and coming Democrat who can make a name for themselves? Maybe at the 2012 convention?

There might be one for the RNC in 2012.

Cory Booker, Andrew Cuomo, and Gavin Newsom come to mind.

I certainly hope not. At the rate this country is going, by 2015 we may very well already be China II.

What color is the sky in your world?

I agree with Denny.

All I see out there are 'politics as usual' candidates and then there's Obama. So I see no hope for change.

The republican should run away with this election. Obama's prize accomplishment is unpopular and very expensive. The debt he's run up has to be paid by someone, and that someone is the voter. If unemployment does fall to 8% by election time as he claims, what does that say about his policies that failed and the republicans blocking them and the success after that? Gitmo's open, the war escalated in Afghanistan, new war in Libya. Many millions of homes foreclosed upon while the banks bought other banks with taxpayer bailout money. Rioting and unrest in the streets, reminiscent of the 1960s.

Peace and prosperity?

All the republican has to do is make the case.

Not sure why you mentioned Reagan in there.

Easily the most divisive and inflexible President in my lifetime, and universally reviled by Democrats.

The short-term plan as I understand it is Obama, Hillary, Hillary, Michelle Obama, Michelle Obama...

Democrats don't know what's good for them, but they sure did vote for Reagan ("Reagan Democrats")

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has taken a commanding lead in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, hitting the 40 percent mark for the first time in the campaign, according to an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released on Tuesday.
Gingrich is the first choice of 40 percent of Republican primary voters compared with 23 percent support for former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, the poll found.

But the survey also found deep unease with the Republican front-runner among independents and swing voters who normally decide presidential elections, the Wall Street Journal reported.

In a hypothetical contest with President Barack Obama, Gingrich trails the Democratic incumbent by more than 10 percentage points (40 percent to 51 percent) while Obama leads Romney by 2 percentage points (47 percent to 45 percent).

According to the poll, a majority of Republican primary voters, 51 percent, view the field of candidates competing to challenge Obama in the 2012 presidential race as "average," according to the poll.

Only 21 percent of respondents believe the Republican field is strong and 27 percent say it is weak, the survey found.

The remaining Republican candidates polled below 10 percent with Texas Representative Ron Paul at 9 percent, Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann at 8 percent, Texas Governor Rick Perry at 6 percent, former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman at 5 percent, and former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum at 3 percent.

The poll of 1,000 people was conducted December 7-11 and has an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

It'll be just Newt or Mr. President soon enough. Lol.

the only way he'll be called Mr President, is if he self appoints himself President of the New Gingrich fan club.
