Suppose New Orleans said they'll give us Chris Paul if, and only if, we give Oden in return. Would you do that trade?

If we got to keep Roy, Aldridge, Batum, Camby

Why do people title threads as a yes/no question, then have their poll also as a yes/no question... but between them, yes and no mean the exact opposite things?

So, no - not a deal killer... and yes - I'd trade Oden if absolutely necessary.

Hold on Rasta...this is confusing... i said Yes because the title was, is he a deal killer?

clarify cause i think El is against trading ODEN

Yeah, because Oden is one of the top 5 players in the league, and CP3 isn't!

Oh...wait....

Yes, I'd trade Oden if that was the only way to get Paul (and little else of value was included). I'd just be a lot less enthused...I think the team would be superior, with greater long-term certainty, but would still be one piece away from a major title contender.

I'm against trading Oden. Only way to win a championship IMO. If we get Paul, the talent level and matchups will not be enough to overtake the Wade-LeBronze beast or the Lakers. Only a dominant oden who draws double and triple teams will be enough to do so. I have faith in Oden.

What??

you aren't trading them straight across anyway.

you're giving up Oden, Miller, Pryz, blah, blah, etc. We should be focused on giving them salary relief and young guys that are cheap. We wanna be the ones doin the Cho-slappin.

Would you be willing to give up Oden for a potential 1 or 2 year rental of CP3. Plus I don't think the Hornets would want Oden considering they'd have to extend him and pay him the kind of money they're avoiding.

Oops - I see the confusion. So maybe the thread title should be "Would you deny that you don't want not to trade Oden"

I would do this and give them all expiring contracts

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=38vzcxa

POR OUT
Oden, Przybilla and Miller (No Batum), add in cash and draft picks

POR IN
Paul and Okafor

Everyone including Oden can be an expiring contract if that is what they want. And if they want to re-up Oden, they can

PG Paul, Bayless, Mills or Johnson
SG Roy, Matthews, Fernandez, Williams
SF Batum, Cunningham, Babbitt
PF LMA, Pendergraph
C Okafor, Camby

still leaves you with Rudy to deal

IMO the only reason Portland trys to make this deal is to get the big 4 together.

Losing Oden for Paul IMO is only a minor upgrade if you're trying to win the championship.

You probably win more regular season games (but not many) and you are looking at WCF at the most. Get the big 4 together and your talking Finals and if no lockout in 2011-12 a real shot at being champions.

The big 4 also insures against injury. You can probably lose one for a large part of the season or even 2 for smaller parts and still compete for the 1 or 2 seed.

GET LOADED PORTLAND!!!!!

word. repped.

I would do this and give them all expiring contracts and tell GO we will max him out next summer in a *Wink wink deal

he'll be a restricted FA and we'll be limited to offering the MLE (at most). if oden goes he's gone for good.

I would be willing to send Oden if we kept Batum.

Okafor might have a bad contract, but he can still get a double/double on most nights and block shots. Plus he hasn't missed a single game in the last three seasons, which is something we can't say about any center we've ever had. Oden isn't absolutely necessary to win championships. If that's what it takes to get Paul, then I'd send him. I'd hope that we'd keep Batum instead if that were the case.

I had been saying no, but voted yes. I'm really on the fence because I think Greg deserves another shot before getting rid of him.

Oden, if he reaches his potential, might be as good as Paul is right now.

Paul is the best PG in the league and the best PG since Magic. He's a legitimate top 5 player and that's basically what we all wished Oden would be. If trading Oden means keeping Batum and having a starting four of Paul/Roy/Batum/Aldridge with Camby sticking around and two years to find a serviceable center that rebounds and defends, than we're sitting pretty.

IMO, the Blazers can win a title without Chris Paul (albeit, they'll need a solid long-term PG when Miller is gone).

Conversely, I don't believe they can win one without Greg Oden.

seems we're sitting pretty with Miller/Roy/Batum/Aldridge/Oden. and we didn't need to trade half the team to get there.

If for no other reason than we can (with limited exception like Ben Gordon) have Oden under contract for 6 more years at our option. CP3 could be gone in 2.

But I have a bunch of other reasons, mostly dealing with team fit, scarcity of game-changing big men in the league, old-wives' GM-ing (never trade big for small), and my vision that Oden will become, very shortly, a friggin' BEAST.

If Oden stays healthy and fulfills his promise.

Oden could be a once-a-generation center (I know some have decided that's no longer a possibility, but I haven't). Paul already is a once-a-generation point guard. If one swapped Oden for Paul, one would be swapping risk for certainty. I would do that, but of course the goal (to me) is to pair them up.

Bosh is better than or equal to Aldridge. Lebron is better than Roy or Paul. Wade is better than or equal to Roy or Paul.

Now, Oden at his full potential and if healthy, is unstoppable.

So, I say no because Oden is our only chance at exposing the weak front courts of today's NBA. I remember playing Toronto and Oden abusing Bosh. I also remember Oden abusing the Heat with a 20 rebound effort. Sure, they have Big Z now but he's not a great defensive presence and he'll be gone in a few years.

CP3 will get us wins in the regular season but in the finals, he'll be less effective in assists and scoring.

See, now why would you assume Oden could stay healthy AND reach his full potential, but also assume Paul would be less effective?

I think we HAVE TO KEEP Oden. His dominance is what will take us past the Lakers, Heat or Magic. Otherwise, we get beat along the way.

Scrubs, Expiring Contracts, then LaMarcus, Batum or Roy before Oden. Everyone else can be replaced.
