And I think it's irresponsible to have a platform based on "civil liberties" without calling out "civic responsibilities." Haven't the D's been doing that for almost a century? How is packaging it in a "smaller gov't" speech anything new or potentially game-changing?

To be neutral, no one on the (R) side is taking that up, either...but I don't hear Romney/Gingrich/etc. talking about civil liberties much, other than the occasional "I'd quash them if I didn't like them."

Google "Ron Paul civil liberties.". He talks about them and responsibilities.

For one, he delivered thousands of babies and never took a dime of compensation from the govt. That is, he did it for free instead of taking Medicaid.

That's SMART! Seriously, the sooner the damn party thing is abolished the better. It's nice knowing that a player like Ron Paul is not afraid to do what he thinks is best for his country. I wish more leaders were like that!

With many delegates in a bloc heading into the convention in Tampa, didn't that mean he would remain committed to the GOP and not run an independent candidacy in the fall, even if he did not secure the nomination?

"I'll decide that later," Paul said while he was waiting for his son Rand Paul, a GOP senator from Kentucky, to finish an interview with the press.

When asked whether it would be difficult to run independently with a son who might want to run for the GOP nomination some day, the senior Paul said again, "I'll decide that later," before being hustled to a press event.

As definitively against it as he may have been a couple weeks ago, he's by no means consistent on that.

He's looking for a seat at the table. To be able to influence the party platform.

If he ran 3rd party, he'd assure Obama wins, and I seriously doubt he wants that. To boot, it'd really hurt his son's standing in the party, and Rand is the likely guy to pass the torch to.
