These are the last 16 champions. The one trend that you see is the winning team having a top five player in the league. We currently have one borderline top 10, and one maybe top 25. Even if we even have the tiniest of shots at getting such a guy... we have to go for it. Doesn't matter how he fits or how his game works in our system. Rather, we cater to his strengths and maximize those talents.

In game 6 what you said had some merit, not last night.

KD is a baller. He's a top 3 player in the NBA. We shouldn't be nitpicking his game and potential fit when we just need talent everywhere. You build around guys like KD.

For me it isn't so much who takes the shots but how they get them. GS was moving the ball around. OKC was playing hero ball. One works, and is a joy to watch (and play); the other, not so much. You want your best players taking most of the shots, but I'd rather they get those shots by moving the ball and getting the defense on its heels. Also, it would be nice if we had three best players to take them. Seems like KD's work would be much easier, too.

The Thunder were killing the Warriors in the first half running pick and rolls. Once they got away from that and started doing one-on-one stuff, the game was over. Durant made it interesting with some great one-on-one plays, but I never felt that the Thunder were going to win with that style of play.
 
I'm new to this thread, so somebody else might've taken this stance already, but I have an answer to the question that is nuanced but definitive. And the answer is: "No. There is not."

For a minute there, I thought we were getting both.

Guess we'll have to settle for Durant and Howard. They'll probably agree to split the $23 million we have available for next season, and cash in the year after.

None of these teams had a current top 5 player other than LeBron in 2012 and 2013, unless you go all the way back to maybe Duncan in 2005 and maybe 2007. Kobe was top five in the early 2000's but already an aging gimp by 2009. Dirk and Wade were never top 5 at any point in their careers.

Kobe put up 27/5/5 and even won his only MVP in 2008. Not a top 5?

Dirk won MVP in 07 and returned to that level in the playoffs when he won the title in 11.

DWade is obvious, man. Stuff you're saying is not even debatable.
 
What's the likelihood that we even get a meeting with the guy?

To follow on, Kobe was 2nd in MVP balloting in 2009 and 3rd in 2010. Wade was 4th in the league in PER in 2006 and led the league in 2007 (MVP Dirk was 2nd).

Dirk, however, was actually significantly better statistically in the playoffs the 3 years prior to winning a title than in 2011. He did elevate his game in 2011 over his regular season performance, but so did Terry and Barea.

Maybe Duncan in 2005 and 2007? The best power forward ever, was the best power forward in both those years. And he was definitely a top 5 player in the league.

Wizards, Celtics, Heat, Knicks, Lakers, Clippers, Rockets, Spurs and, yes, Warriors ... that's merely where the list of teams known to be actively seeking the chance to court KD face-to-face stands. Aggressive teams like the Raptors and Blazers will presumably try their luck, too. And there will surely be others we don't see yet.

What would it mean for the Warriors if he goes there? Curry due to get paid next season. They would certainly not re-sign Barnes or their other FAs. Sign Durant to a 1 year and reassess next year?

Talk about a super team...

2.) Go back to 2007 before the draft

3.) Convince Kevin Prichard and the Blazers that you are a time traveler with knowledge of the future. Assure them you aren't looking for John Connor. (I'm sure no small feat, you will probably be dragged to the asylum and strapped in a straight jacket, but maybe just maybe it will have worked and been worth it, maybe Prichard chooses Durant over Oden on the off chance that you were right)

4. Draft Kevin Durant with the first pick in the 2007 draft

Durant is the new clyde drexler to Curry (Jordan). Whats gonna change he already disappeared in the clutch and choked out. What he has one more run in him? He has failed time and time again on the biggest stage.

Golden State could have $22mil in cap space this summer but in order from that to happen the Warriors would have to noy [pick up Livingstons option and the Warriors would have to renounce....

So they would have to clear quite a bit more to offer a max, especially if Livingston is still there.

Dame is our Jordan. Durant is our Pippen. CJ is our Isiah Thomas. Laimbiebs is our Laimbeer. Davis is our Rick Mahorn. We are two championship teams in one!
