I haven’t lived within the Portland city limits for 35 years (gratefully) but my brother has lived his entire life in inner Southeast Portland (67 years) and has always been “community oriented”. Interestingly, he doesn’t think Wheeler has done a terrible job under the circumstances. He’s met Iannarone and has been impacted by some of her involvement in various community organizations. According to him, she’s not the most focused individual and does not play particularly well with others. It’s generally her way or the highway and he feels that would not work well under current circumstances (Chloe Eudaly anyone?). And while he has no axe to grind with Joanne Hardesty, he figures her aggressive style will likely pay the same “dividends” that Eudaly is currently reaping. Portland City Government is terribly fractured and dysfunctional and it doesn’t look like it’s going to get better anytime soon with the quality of the candidates being what it is and every one of them having different and competing agendas. If ever there was a time to change Portland’s form of municipal governance, this is it......but then, I don’t live there.......

Diversion tactic in SE shooting?
“It’s not enough for police to protect their precinct offices and union building. We need them to be protecting all public and private property in Portland,” James Buchal, president of the Multnomah County Republican Party, said in a statement.
The chief and mayor pointed out that some groups late Sunday night on social media were applauding and celebrating the destruction they caused in the city.
The PNW Youth Liberation Front, which has made regular calls on social media exhorting people to show up and protest in the city, posted a message at 10:41 p.m. Sunday on Twitter, “hey portland. now THAT is how we (expletive) do it. didn’t that feel wonderful?”
Mayor Ted Wheeler called the destruction “anarchist behavior” and said the attacks on businesses and the Oregon Historical Society are “obscene.”
“As long as people are engaged in multiple activities all across the city, it makes it difficult for our police bureau to respond to in real time,” said Wheeler, who serves as police commissio
