The Frenchwoman who received the first ever face transplant has died at 49.
Isabelle Dinoire underwent the groundbreaking surgery in 2005 several months after her pet Labrador severely disfigured her.
She died in April, though her death was kept private until Tuesday, when it was first reported by Le Figaro.
The newspaper said that her immune system rejected another skin graft last year, and that a battery of anti-rejection drugs had led to two cancer diagnoses.
