But what's the point of even messing around with the stuff??? I have a friend in his 50's (another anecdote) who can't stop drinking for the life of him, though he has tried many times. Alcohol is probably the single greatest source of human misery on the planet when you consider the domestic violence, auto accidents, and general mayhem caused by its influence.

I'm sure you do lots of things in your life that could eventually harm you, but you get some enjoyment out of it. Why do you do those things???

I agree alcohol is the most harmful drug in the US, especially in our society where its use and abuse has such acceptance.

Some people will lose all control around alcohol and destroy their lives. Some people can easily handle it with zero consequences. Most of us are in the middle, while using it we’ll have some consequences, side effects, and potential danger but not enough to cause serious repeated wreckage in our lives.

The main thing I don’t like with alcohol is when people don’t accept it as a drug. Having a drink is the same as smoking weed from a pop can or snorting coke in a bathroom, you’re partaking in an activity to get the mind altering drug effect. Sure most people can have an occasional drink every week and be fine, but most people could probably have a little heroine every week and be fine. It’s just alcohol is so accepted in our society it has a different perception. I choose to occasionally have a drink and use alcohol as a drug, I don’t do other drugs, but when I’m drinking I am using a drug.

Don't sell yourself short there, Draco. I saw you in the dorms in college.

Getting this thread back to DaRizzle, I think being a fan of the Piss & Purple is the most harmful thing you can do to yourself. Sure, you'll be with the beautiful people, but at what cost to your eternal soul?

ah haha yes wow that was like half a life ago when we were 19..... Same year the Blazers last won a playoff series!

DaRizzle part:
Welcome back. Glad to see you around, and can't wait to for the matchup in the postseason.c

Drinking part: Genetics. VanillaGorilla, take a look at your family. If there are alcoholics, then perhaps you should take shooters advise and just quit while you're ahead. If you come from a family where everyone can drink but they choose moderation, then enjoy the magic elixir.

Tell that to my nephews. One is in rehab right now. The other admits that he can't stop drinking.

And sometimes dynamite doesn't explode when it's supposed to--but why take a chance?

Just because your nephews are fuckups doesn't mean everyone else is going to be. Part of the great journey about young adulthood is finding out the potency of alcohol. After a few years most develop a good understanding.

Yeah. If its not booze it'll be something else.

Hate the sin, not the sinner, maxiep. Unless the sinner is a bandwagon douchebag.

<----no bandwagon, possible douchebag

...and thank you for beating the Spurs tonight....that much closer to the #1 seed for the lakers and at least less of a chance to face you guys in the 1st round

I wouldn't worry about the playoffs as you add an alternate uniform:

Yeah, but he's playing 5 fewer mpg. Per 36 it's higher than the last two years and just .2 off his career average. He still gets plenty of calls. However, he's no Kevin Durant...

It's a "great journey" all right. Throwing up in public, driving drunk, having hangovers, making a fool of yourself. Not to mention the health effects and the danger of addiction. I don't know a single person who regrets not drinking as a teenager--but I know lots of people who wish they had never taken their first drink.

Of course. But the consequences of drinking alcohol are potentially much graver than the consequences of eating a bag of potato chips while watching a Blazer game. :)

I don't like alcohol which is why I haven't drank it much. Everything with alcohol in it tastes absolutely disgusting to me. I drank cause I was with my friends who I don't see much and it was spring break.
I hear you--but don't drink just because your friends do. That's how a lot of people get hooked on the stuff. I'm glad you don't like the taste of alcohol--but if you keep drinking, you will learn to like it, and that's a fact.

Best of everything, man--and have a great life!

How about adjusting for minutes played? Below are FT's/minute:

2011 0.204
2010 0.191
2009 0.191
2008 0.195
2007 0.245

I'm sorry that your family has had issues with alcohol. But don't assume that everyone who drinks alcohol has no self control.

Many of us can drink and control our behavior without any grave consequences, it's really not that hard. So I have no problem choosing a beer instead of a bag of chips without this mysterious fear of consequces being greater than a bag of chips.

Relax and have a beer . . . or a bag of chips, whatever helps you relax.

Shouldn't we be talking about a more serious addiction here? Caffeine. I'm addicted to soda and it's terrible for me. I've tried to quit multiple times but I've failed. It just tastes too good. I don't like the taste of water. It's too bland. Whether it's coffee, energy drinks, or soda, I think caffeine is a terrible, terrible drug.

I too am addicted to sugary drinks. I dont do Energy drinks, or Coffee... but Soda, and Juices are my weakness in this world, along with French Fries. also Slurpees, if we had a 7-11 here in Hood River I would be broke, and weight about 450 lbs.

I already knew you were a square. But, you just took it to a whole new level.

And they're so expensive. I like juices and teas and they just get more and more expensive. I drank Sobe for a while, until they got up around 1.50 a pop. I drank Vitamin Water for a while, but that got too expensive too. I like Snapple but only when it's on sale, and I try to drink the store brand sodas, but it's an expensive habit to have. I don't touch energy drinks because they're nasty and I only drink coffee occasionally.

true... Sobe's were so amazing, but yeah too expensive, I remember when Safeway would have them on sale for like 10 for 7.50 or something I would stock up lol.

Back in the day Starbucks had a Valencia syrup which was kinda orange flavored, they put that into one of their ice passion tea's with lemonade... WOWOWOWOW best thing I have ever had.

Right now they're on sale for $1.00 but that's about as good as it gets now.
