It takes one good move out of every four.

It’s showing up statistically, too. Through six games, the Blazers have a 99.9 defensive rating when Nurkic is on the floor, a number that would lead all teams this season. The Blazers have had a bottom-four defense this season, so it’s a staggering about-face for Nurkic, one of the laziest big men in basketball, to make such a difference.

Our only true big men are Nurkic, Meyers, and Vonleh. We must pick up another big man from G League just in case.
Yeah. I'd like to see them pick up a banger in the draft but what we have now will have to hold till then. I just don't see Festus ever working out for this team.

So honestly is there any more questions about Olshey making a good deal on that trade?
I think not.

I don't think people ever questioned this trade, really... I mean, a first round pick and a player who did kind of prove himself in his rookie year... we were just happy he got something for Plums.

It's the fact that now we got Nurk AND the 1st round pick... It's insane.

I don't think anyone questioned the deal. I just think most people, including our GM, rated the assets coming back in the wrong order.
As was pointed out in another thread. One GM is going to get extended and one might be looking for a job after that trade.

Speaking of extensions, when can we get Nurkic locked in long term?

Technically, we could extend him this offseason just like we did with CJ this past summer.

I think our concept of "Bad Moves" aren't really that bad anyway. Sure sometimes it's easy to go hindsight on deals like the Afflolo trade, but reality at the time... Same thing with this disaster of Meyers' contract, was it really a disaster or are we magnifying it a bit because the shock of overall salary jumps. Based on the salary jumps, Meyers is making the equivalent of $6.8mil based on last years cap.

Olshey has been successful enough that people have to turn to things that were rumored to not have happened (EG Parsons offer) to use to criticize the work he has done. But still if you look at the time at which he supposedly pursued these guys, it's not like at the time they were bad to pursue, it's in the wake that they fell off. So yes he got lucky by dodging a bullet, but hindsight isn't always a fair measuring stick. Same thing with Hibbert.

Do you know what the amount would be?
A 4-year max extension offered summer 2017 to take effect summer 2018 would start at 25% of the 2018 cap which is projected at 108M, and would have 7.5% escalators each year. So that would be 27M/29M/31M/33M, or a total of $120M over 4 years. For reference, CJ's extension that takes effect this summer is $106M over 4 years.

Of course, we don't know if Nurkic and his agent have an amount lower than that that they would accept as a guaranteed payday rather than gambling on another year of health and performance. For example, 4y/100M would start at 22.5M in year 1. If he keeps up for the remainder of the season what he's been doing so far, he's easily worth that much.

I wonder if he would turn it down and become RFA and leave? Guess we will find out?

My guess is they offer him Chandler Parsons money if they extend him four years this summer..94 for 4

Try to see what you have this season and get him to extend. That would be best for the team. Agents however seem to like making more money. Funny how that works.
