Don't think the surgery will cost him much money. IT is a nitch player. He wasn't going to earn that much regardless. He'll get around $5-6M this summer

He was looking for north of $25 mil/year. He was up front about this when he was in Boston.

Please don't bring Trump into the main forum.

BOS was the perfect fit for him. They needed his scoring, but could surround him with 4 defensive studs to help hide his deficiencies on that end of the floor.

Jeez hes fallen from grace. Just last year he was key to the Celtics. Now he's and afterthought.

He has actually been so overrated in the last year or so - that he is becoming underrated. Someone will get him for less than the MLE and will have an excellent instant-offense off the bench for 15-20 minutes a night.

If he agrees to come off the bench and not be a team destroying cancer.

After missing 38 of 45 games, the guy actually had the nerve to call out Kevin Love for missing a game in which the team, including IT, gave up 148 points in regulation. Love had only missed one game all year, was playing like an all star, and has won a championship in CLE. He may not be perfect, but for Thomas, who didn't accomplish shit in CLE to call out Love shows a monumental lack of self-awareness.

I don't think anyone thinks IT was not out of line there and has a higher opinion of himself than warranted. I suspect however that having been traded twice this year with less than optimal results in either place have probably knocked him off his soap box - and the upcoming lack of options will likely provide another one of these reality checks - that it seems to me he will likely get a sub-MLE offer somewhere - and whoever gives him that ensures he understand where he is standing.

So, to me, it seems that a team with string leadership (be it players or coaches) might be able to get a good deal on an instant offense 15-20 minutes a game instant-offense kind of player.

Some bottom dwelling team that needs a PG and a "name" to put butts in the seats will probably over pay him. On a crap team where he is the 1st, 2nd and 3rd options, he may very well lead the league and scoring - while also leading his team to 21 wins.

Yep. He was looking/wanting that.
There was NO WAY Boston was ever going to pay him that.
They've been very judicious with their money. Letting some FA walk who have too high an offer (Turner) and actively trading players who make it public that they are wanting a cash day (Bradley & IT).

A problem with him getting a reasonable deal somewhere is that the bottom teams won’t be willing to take a player who could potentially win them game with his offense where they are preparing themselves for another year of tanking - that goes for the likes of Chicago, Atlanta and Dallas. None of the playoffs teams would start him currently simply because he is nowhere near good enough and he wouldn’t be willing to accept this either.

That leaves Knicks, Magic and Suns and one of them will end up taking him.

I predict it will be ORL. The Knicks aren't as stupid as the used to be and PHO seems to be taking a longer view with building around youth. IT doesn't fit in with that strategy. ORL seems to be intent on stealing the title of most stupidly run team in the league from SAC. Some (all) of the moves they've made the past two years have been real head scratchers.

I mentioned Suns and Knicks because both will also need to find a new point guard. Suns can actually re-sign Elfrid Payton who has been decent for them and Knicks can develop Musial and Ntilikina but both are far from ready to contribute on a winning team.

Orlando are the best bet I agree. They are a bit stupid so might even offer him an inflated deal. There is a chance though that they will land Trae Young in the draft and if that happens, they might prefer to develop him rather than bring IT.

For MLE signing I could actually see him go to Indiana, New Orleans or Detroit. Not sure if all of them will have the MLE available but IT would work as an impact off the bench player at any of them. Collison, Holiday and probably even Jackson are all better than him but two or maybe even all of them could play at the 2 and even if they couldn’t, there will be minutes to distribute outside of the first team.
