It's not as good

The tv broadcast was only a second behind the radio broadcast so I just listened to Wheels while watching the game on mute. Hopefully Playstation Vue is as well synced so I can continue to do that.

Did Cababro call games for the Sonics? Who is the dude working with him now? What is his claim to fame?
Is just Black enough to land the job? I can't relate to his comments or ups and downs.

Seriously? Yes he was the voice of the Sonics but he has been doing National games for TNT, TBS, ESPN and NBA TV along with doing the Finals multiple times. He is a legendary voice and considered one of the best in the business in the entire country.

Seriously?

When I turned on the game and heard the guy ( my first Blazer game with him calling it), I thought, Sonics! But my other questions where about the dude working with him.

This, this and this.

They were seriously getting on my nerves, especially in the first quarter. PLEASE don't fill every micro-second of air time with the sound of your voice(s). Not only is it not necessary, it distracts and detracts from the enjoyment of watching the game.

Calabro talks too much, and Hurd talks too much and tries to be too entertaining, without offering ANY useful insight. Dude if you don't have anything useful to say, don't say anything. I never thought I'd say this: But I'd rather have Michael Holton. His attempts at turning a clever phrase are generally dumb, but at least his basketball takes are smart.

Not pleased.
I totally get what you're saying, but we clearly have a difference of opinion regarding who is more distracting. I felt that Calabro's voice and tone blended into the game and I never found myself wishing he'd shut up - I could easily tune him out and let the action speak for itself. OTOH I found M&M to be exceedingly distracting.

Hurd...I get the complaints and even agree with them, to a point. But given it was his first game I'm not worried about it...much like Evan Turner's performance.

On the whole I think this crew will be far less distracting than M&M. I think what's probably distracting some people is the difference, not the content. C&H don't have history with the players, and that "missing ingredient" might be distracting to some. Personally, I don't care about the announcers personal connections to the players, or their golf handicap, or whatever M&M would yammer on about - I just want to watch the BLAZERS, and Calabro makes it easier for me to focus on what's most important to me.

We all thought the same about YOU after your first post! #BAM

Pretty sure you didn't even own a computer, let alone heard of the interwebs when I made my first post FAMS!

Ever heard of the usenet forum rec.basketball? That's where I started posting back in the late 80s. It split into rec.basketball.pro and rec.basketball.college and grew from there until it was moved to the alt.basketball usenet hierarchy.

Ah, good times when young punks like you knew their place.

Ha, I remember alt.sports.basketball.nba.por-blazers, rec.basketball.pro, etc..those were the days.

You lost me at ,"ever heard of".

Stop! You guys aren't even typing real words!

Just so you have a bit of a clue...

Starting around 1981 there were these things called usenet newsgroups. They were text based online forums back in the days when dorks used modems and dial up connections to talk shit with other dorks.

End of history lesson.

Indeed--I'm loving watching the white Blazer fan base freaking out "What?! A black guy commentating?! I can't understand his speak!!!"

why does it have to be about his race, or how he speaks? Maybe it could be that he's trying too hard. A lot of people aren't too keen on Callabro, and guess what, he's white.

Most people thought Steve Jones (not white) crapped gold.
Pat Lafferty (white) was disliked by most.
Pete Pranica (white) was disliked by most.

Pretty sure us white folk didn't freak out when we had Snapper.

This has nothing to do with Hurd's race. He just needs to relax, slow down and stop trying so hard and he'll be fine - and still black.

Yeah, and didn't a lot of people bitch about the guy who replaced him (Barrett)? change is hard to accept, regardless of the hue of the guys skin.

I'm not talking about people on here--just various tweets I've been ready from people about the new broadcasting team.

We're still a race here.... this message board just doesn't up and make us transparent. lol.

I'll just say be careful about the blanket statements.

And yes, Hurd will be fine when he finds his groove.

My comment about him being Black, was because that seems to be the only thing he has going for him. Talent missing so he must have been hired to balance the team.

Wait what's changed? Did Denny not own the usenet group back then or something?

Snapper was one of the best ever. Incredibly honest, probably to honest. He would get into arguments with whoever he was working with when they spouted out some BS.

He's my all time favorite announcer, never understood why he was let go.

I thought Calabro was the one who wanted him?

My understanding is that Hurd wasn't the Blazers 1st choice....or 2nd. No matter, I like the knowledge he brings to the game even though I agree it seems he is trying to get too much in too often. They'll get a rhythm.

I already prefer it to constant whining about the refs, the obligatory 10 calls a night that were wrong because of anticipation of a favorable Blazers outcome instead of just calling the game. "Long '3' by Lillard. No, deep '2' they say." "Out of bounds....Blazer ball. No, off the Blazers they say." That happened so often it became a drinking game. Combine that with how often Rice would obliterate a player's name and that had become quite old. I liked them both and Rice was certainly entertaining at time but I believe this is an upgrade.

It's not like they haven't called games together before being hired by the Blazers. They did some college games together. Hurd is not just some ex-Beaver player they pulled off the street to "balance the team". He is still very young in the business but does have some experience.

That's racist.

And wrong.

Man that bugged me so much because it implied that Barretts view of the game was more correct than the refs. Not to mention it would mislead the viewer into thinking the refs had some personal vendetta against the Blazers.
