Jabari Young: Monroe or DeAndre

I'm actually not against getting Monroe as long as we pair him with a solid defensive big.

But if Aldridge stays, I wouldn't want Monroe. We still need a defensive anchor to be insurance on the defensive end

Imo, Monroe hasn't played that great with a defensive anchor (Drummond) next to him. If you're going to have a big guy who plays in the paint, like Monroe, Boogie, or Al Jeff, you don't want a defensive minded center who will clog up the middle like a Drummond, Chandler, or Dwight Howard.

I think Monroe would do very well if paired with Leonard. It would be a really nice inside/outside combo.

So essentially don't play any defense at all and try to be the 2010 Phoenix Suns and outscore everyone?

If you get Monroe, it would be a bad idea to try to pair him with someone like, say, Roy Hibbert. They're both ball hounds, they both play in the paint, and having them on the court together would minimize the impact of both players.

What he is saying though is neither Monroe or Leonard is much of a defender (especially Monroe, Leonard at least seems to look to be improving).

Defensive ratings per 100 possesions...

Jordan 98
Gasol 100
Hibbert 101
Leonard 102
Aldridge 102
Monroe 103
Lopez 104
Griffin 106

DR tells only part of the story. Anyone with any sort of Bball IQ knows this

I want to see the alternate universes where DeAndre stays a Clipper or becomes a Blazer, because in one, I bet there's a rules change to prevent hack-a-Shaq... guess which one.

What he's really saying is Monroe is one of those guys who will have an impressive career without a championship.

On top of that, it would really hamper driving lanes for Lillard

No. Also get Thibideau to teach the TEAM how to play defense.
There isn't a player in the league that can't play defense. But there are a TON who don't play defense. The fact that they don't play defense is the coach's fault. But any player can become a good defender, all it takes is a good coach who will hold his players accountable.

Maybe we can hire Monty Willims to come in to be our Defensive Coorfinator...

Monroe is slow and unathletic. You need good defenders to play good team defense and he's terrible. That's like saying it doesn't matter if you get good offensive players, because anyone can become a good scorer if the coach holds them accountable..

Pound for pound sounds like Mebo.

It's working for the Grizzlies and Zach Randolph :dunno:

Not the same at all. No matter how much you teach, or hold players accountable, some just do not possess the skill/coordination to be a good offensive player. But every player has the ability to be a good defensive player - they just need a good defensive system to work within and a coach who won't put up with players who won't put in the effort to execute the defensive plan.

Athletic, non-athletic... Who gives a shit? Can the dude ball, that's what really matters.

Athleticism: the most overrated quality a basketball player can possess.

Unless it's LeBron level... That's a game changer
Lebron still has the skill on top of the athleticism though. Remember Travis Outlaw? My thing is this results are what matter. If a dude needs to be athletic, fine if he is fundamental fine, as long as he gets the job done, and it goes both ways, see Adam Morrison.

I don't think Outlaw is a good example. Outlaw was a freak athlete, but he was also dumb as a box of rocks. That's not an exaggeration. When I think of someone who is a freak athlete, but never really put the work in to harness that talent, I think of Darius Miles. I think he is a perfect example of someone with all the athletic gifts you can have, but none of the desire. He floated through his career and never really lived up to the expectations.
