July 17 for 79 .215

Aug 4 for 27 .148

That's 21 for 106 .198

You cannot have this out of the leadoff spot for over a month in the leadoff spot. With the Drew nonsense still going on it's just a killer.

Garnder hasn't been much better.

July 21 for 85 .247

Aug 4 for 19 .211

That's 25 for 104 .240

I mean 46 for 210 out of the 1 and 2 spot for over a month is dreadful. It's amazing they scored all of those runs in that burst they had.

Both Ellsbury & Gardner were on fire early on; then
Ellsbury got injured & Gardner held fast; then as July
wore on, both have been on a downward trend. Yeah,
I'd say that their decline highlights how this team is
under performing.

It's like what I had said earlier about when guys like Headley and Didi were unconscious. They were clearly going to come down to earth and that's when you need other to step up. A slump is one thing but over a month now is ridiculous. That's how you end up scoring one run against the Blue Jays in three games.

...yeah, we talked about this the other day...Ellsbury has been abysmal since he came back. (with the exception of the HR vs the Sox)...but Gardner has been nearly as bad lately...but this past weekend was pretty much a group non-effort.
...the omni-dependent HRs are not there and the RISP remains anemic.

Plus, the big difference is that Donaldson and Bautista came in here this weekend with swagger and flexed their muscles. The Yankees had a single Tex homer that barely got out. It was nothing short of embarrassing.

I never liked the Ellsbury Deal and Gardner has annoyed me the last couple of years with his lack of running... and when you don't it AND don't run, what's the point of playing him?

...yeah, I like Ellsbury for his overall game but the contract was a typical Cashman overpay/overextend contract...a la Beltran, CC, et al.

Don't mean to sound redundant but stopping the running game at the top of the order because you don't want to take the bat out of A-Rod & Tex's hands is is ridiculous. I don't know the numbers but I've no doubt that no other team with a base stealer at the top of the order has halted his running game for similar reason. Sorry but playing small ball actually works.

...yup, it would be nice to have a more balanced offense because the almighty HRs are not always gonna bail them out, but hell, Ells and Gardner can't even get on base lately.

Exactly. It's not like Ellsbury is even getting on base. Even more disheartening is that in 31 August ABs he has fanned 12 times.

And in his last 16 games he's 9 for 63. That's a 142 average. And his average has dipped during that time from 308 to a season low 267.

...damn, I didn't realize he had whiffed that many times...that's not like him.

I know and the reason I looked up just how many is because it became glaring to me how many times he has fanned recently. Evident of somebody just completely out of sync and not seeing the ball well.

Yanks 3-5 in August.

I think we all thought when the Yanx landed Jacoby, we'd see a 1-2 tandem of small ball base stealers.........

WTF- I don't get it, unless Joe and Brett have both lost faith in Gardner's ability to steal bases, I don't get it, otherwise......

where did the "White Rat" go and retire too........? a team Consultant could be a worthy position for this Team........"get 'em on, get 'em over, get 'em in".........

Some should not, they can't seem to handle seeing many of their usual knee jerk anti-Cashman biased pronouncements, proclamations, evaluations and judgements regarding this team being rightfully pinned down after four months of bashing and sour grapes while the season was being played.

True the season isn't over yet....and by the same token, this last three game sweep also hasn't doomed the team which has been the basic "board" theme - imo - which I've observed.
(All 8 or 9 "regulars"?, lol)

Relevant to Cashman being labeled and branded an "idiot" and Dombrowski being generally accepted here as some kind of genius......

.......Dombrowski/Cashman trades - Lowell trade was a winner..BUT - Cashman also traded for Brosius around the same time and I believe the Yanks did okay with Brosius at 3b.

Granderson in return for Jackson, Coke and Kennedy.
Cashman wins this trade FOR THE YANKEES, Grandy went on to be one of the Yanks' best all around players and a terrific HR hitter.
Dombrowski "fleeced" someone else....not Cashman

In two of the more high profile important off season "deals".

1) Cashman signs Miller instead of Drob.
Miller- 38 IP, 1.66 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, 24 saves, 0 BLSVs
Drob - 44 IP, 2.66 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, 22 saves, 5 BLSVs
Miller- cheaper price tag and Yanks also got a draft pick.

And the record shows Dombrowski looks more like the GM who puts together "poorly constructed" teams as he couldn't figure out how to give his Tigers a championship bullpen. :biglaugh:

Last but definitely not least:

2) Cashman deals Greene to Dombrowski and receives DiDi Gregorius.
Greene 6.88 ERA, 1.55 WHIP, banished to Tiger's "bullpen"..., lol.

Gregorius - showing steady improvement at his craft of being a first time everyday SS.
.261 BA, 4 errors since the end of May, total of 10.

Final results of this trade aren't in - however, after more than four months of the season in the books, this has the earmarks of being a classic steal of a deal and could result in one of the biggest winners in recent Yankee history.

It's all good to me- as long as the opinions and comments are written in the same language and duly recorded on paper for all and anyone to see.
That'll do very nicely.

Another solid 0-7 for Ellsbury. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse. But please give us another feel good post.
