7 years/$153 million from the Yankees.

13th largest contract in US sports' history.

I swear the Yankees do this just to troll Boston fans.

In the end they troll themselves though.

It's like they don't even pay attention... they've been overspending like this for a long time now, and how has it worked out for them? They won one World Series in ten years, but they've probably spent enough money to buy a small country.

Ellsbury could buy the entire town of Madras at this point.

I like watching him play. He's fun to watch, but he'll be 31 next season, misses a bunch of games, and is a lead-off hitter. Grossly overpaid, but you can't begrudge him for taking it. There is no way he was going to get close to the contract from the Red Sox.

Super disappointed in this Oregon boy, signing with the 'Baseball L*kers'. Now he'll endure the 'Jinx of Pay-Rod' with mediocre play and Bronx cheers.

Richest Oregon Indian ever, gotta be happy for the guy.

I'm going to whiteout his autograph from the team-signed ball my brother has...

As a White Buffalo myself (yes!), a Beaver believer and a devoted Yankee hater, I'm still thrilled for the guy. I really do hate the Yankees, but who can blame him for taking that deal? Besides, the Red Sox are the new Yankees anyway.

Boras trolling Cano, by limiting his best option for HUGE payday?

I was hoping he would come to Seattle... But who am I kidding? We suck and will suck forever.

Ellsbury would have actually made sense in Seattle. Big park and he has speed. It would be like Ichiro all over again. Instead, the Mariners are apparently going after Cano, which makes no sense at all. In SafeCo, you need to build a team like the old St. Louis Cardinals had, which is based on speed, contact hitting, defense, and pitchingpitchingpitching.

Exactly. The Mariners organization is borderline retarded though. Still maybe Cano on the M's could help the young guys gain consistency.

Congrats to Beautiful Central Oregon's most famous diamond rat since Kurt Russell played for his Dad on the Bend Rainbows (now the Bend Elks).

The crazy thing? M's could've afforded both @ 25M per and still not hit last season's payroll #.

Played against Ellsbury several times in HS baseball, as we were in the same league. Fastest SOB I ever saw in HS. A dribbler to second was still 50/50 he'd get on base.

Can't fault a guy for accepting a crazy contract offer, we all like to think that we would turn down a 50 million dollar difference bit that's just silly

I'd go to Al Qaeda's baseball team if they paid me $153 million.

Escaping smug and stinky Boston and getting a raise to become part of the most famous, most successful major league sports team in history is a triple treat.

Happy for him, but confused as to why the Yankees still think they can just throw wads of money at players and it'll fix whats the core of their problems.

They should've blown that sucker up 2 years ago.

He's not worth 20 million + a year, but good for him.

Skanks suck.

So do the Yanks.

Can't blame him for the paper chase, though. He has, what, 2-3 rings now?

Typical Beav. He'll probably have a lot of Ducks working for him.

giants have a couple beavs in the minors, susac, and osich off the top of my head, so... go beavs!
