How about we do a different movie? Why remake movies like this? There are a million great stories that have never made the screen.

While i agree with you across the board, this one I'm looking forward to.
long live @Wade Garrett !!!

im more interested in this character than swayzes. They better hit a home run, cause topping Sam Elliot wont be easy. If they dont nail that part, i predict it will be a complete flop. Sam as wade is right up there with Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday.

Has anyone seen this movie yet?

Watched it last night with the wife. It was fun. The story could have been better. Conor McGregor is not a good actor. The fighting scenes were good. The UFC scenes are very short. It makes for a fun popcorn movie. The original was better.

The original is a classic. Scared to watch this, but am on the plane after the game!!!! Wish Jake would have rocked the original haircut!Screenshot 2024-03-25 at 6.28.37 PM.png

It was Conor's first acting gig. I thought it wasn't that bad. Remember the Rock in Scorpion King? He was awful. Conor's charisma is undeniable. I think he will act again and continue to improve.

I thought it was alright. CGI during the fights and the weird truck scene felt unnecessary. McGregor definitely isn't a good actor, but he is so coked up that his performance felt like a deleted subplot in that Michael Bay movie Pain & Gain. The original was so good because you'd come across it on cable and see Terry Funk and just say screw it, I'm in from that point. Easy to watch. Now you have to go on Prime and put this on, it's almost the wrong way to watch something like this.

Yeah, the CGI was stupid. With the slowing down and strange angles of the fight they were trying to put the UFC vibe in and it took away rather than added to it.

I noted McGregor's acting above, but yeah he was just pure octane fucking crazy and I was cool with that.

I like when he realizes this dude is as crazy as I am...crazier! No way he survives that at the end.

The original is definitely better.

A lot of people are upset they didn't get to see this in the theatre.

The original isn't even that good ... bad ass performance from Sam Elliott but the villain and story are a big dud. I think so many people confuse a movie being good and a movie being rewatchable, the original was the latter and not the former. Not even sure I'll fire up this new one, maybe if I'm really that bored smoking the brisket this weekend.

I have a house full of ladies who like pretty much everything Jake Gyllenhaal... I'm sure I'll watch it regardless of how well done it is.

I like some of his work as well, though I'm guessing for much different reasons than the ladies in your house do!

See this is like the win prediction threads…..why on earth would you expect the original or the new one to be good? The first one is ATROCIOUS…..that’s why it’s an absolute CLASSIC! If you know it’s going to be shit, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

Go back and watch old movies, a lot of classics are classics for sentimental reasons not because of the quality of the movie itself. Poorly written, poorly shot….didn’t matter.

My expectations for the new one are to be horrible, and it still probably wouldn't live up to those expectations. I agree with you that sentimentality plays a HUGE role in things we like and don't like but there is also a difference in being Bad/Good and just being Bad/Bad. Whataburger is crazy popular down in Texas and I tell people that it's a fine fast food burger but that they love it not for so much the quality of the food, but the memories and all the other things that come along with it. Movies, music, food etc is all the same.
