When the game is on the line and Terry is drawing up a play, the LAST thing on his mind is how much anyone makes. He's going to go with who he trusts and who he is comfortable with....Point being, Terry will ALWAYS play the guys he thinks gives the team the best chance to win - given the situation. It has NOTHING to do with how much guys are paid.
I'm sure this isn't only a Stotts decision as well. Although I love Olshey I'm sure he has slight bias for the more expensive guy to be producing and therefore playing.
Not necessarily. Olshey wants certain players developed, and certain ones tested early in the season to find their talents, and whether they're worth their pay, and then certain young players developed the rest of the season. The boss' wishes form a framework for Stotts' decisions.
I like how stotts is giving layman early minutes, however minimal. He just needs to keep working his way up the depth chart.
I just wish Stotts would loosen the rope a little
Free Lay, man!!
He does remind me of a prime Adam Morrison with more hops.
A_am might have had the slowest feet in NBA history. Layman seems nothing like him.He does remind me of a prime Adam Morrison with more hops.
Loving Laymans play.
Sweet shooter, decent defender & sometimes straight up Wolf Man:

Not much talk in the thread about how Layman was nearly single-handedly responsible for the double-digit first half deficit against the Nuggets last night? Couldn't hit a shot, couldn't guard Wilson Chandler, -10 in 4 minutes of PT.
Still a work in progress, no doubt.
I think you're overreacting just a tad. Don't think anyone suggested he should be traded, benched, or anything else The main thing I was pointing out was that his defense on Chandler was horrific, and that his failures should be noted along with his successes. I still want to see more of him, and expect him to continue to come out firing, as he should.FULL 4 minutes? TRADE HIM!!!
He's a rookie and he had 2 blocks in 4 minutes ffs.
Turner shot 5/17 (0/3 from 3) and his was celebrated as a hero.
With all due respect, i'd much rather see Jake miss a good attempt than to see Turner's ugly ass jumpshot all day.
Not much talk about CJ scoring zero points during the entire 1st quarter too btw, maybe players need more than 4 minutes to shine?

Yeah, I mean he took 3 shots and didn't make any of them! A player on the other team scored while layman was guarding him! He only had 1 block! He caused so much damage in those 4 mins. I don't know if he will ever step foot on court again! (Am I doing this right?)
His defense wasn't horrific, don't exaggerate it.
He had one play where he should have just kept his feet in one place, then fall\flop and he would've gotten the offensive foul on Chandler. CJ had the exact same thing done to him by Diaw last year and he learned from that experience.
I don't expect any good production from a player who's being thrown in and then yanked out within 5 minutes or less, everyone knows that's a crappy situation to be put in.
Am I exaggerating, or are you underselling? He got owned last night. Yes, he will learn from it, but I don't think it was a coincidence that as soon as the rookie was in the game, the Nuggets attacked him, and did so with great success. His defense wasn't horrific, don't exaggerate it.

He's still got a ways to go.
As a rookie, I'm not even really looking for results as a defender. I'm much more interested in whether or not a guy has physical tools/mentality he can work with. Layman has both. He's got the feet to mirror and explosion to challenge vertically. He almost had a chase down block yesterday, and that's something he did quite a bit in college, and is another example of his explosion.
The improvements he does need to make should all come naturally with more experience and more time in an NBA weight room.
I will not take any Jake slander. He might end up being Olsheys best find when you consider where and how he got him.
Exactly. He is like Teen Wolf in real life.
He does have that Dennis Wilson look about him...actually all our white players would fit perfectly on an early Beach Boys album coverThat nickname is based on his temporary hair and facial hair styles, which will change over the years. But the hair color won't. How about Surfer Boy?

Jake Layman's stats per 36
30 points 50% from 3 100% from 2 4 boards 5 assists 2 steals.
Blazers have 2 MVPs, and one is named Jake Layman.
Michael Jordan only averaged 28.3 points per 36 in his career, and he didn't shoot 100/50 neither.
