Jason Kidd on "Fools", LMA on "Fans" RE: Brandon Roy

Welcome to our community

I bow to your knowledge of everyfuckingthingknowntoman.

Accepting reality is a big step. I'm proud of you, grasshopper. Your first lesson comes in the form of a Merriam-Webster dictionary.

That's not true. The defense was set up to collapse on him on drives, leaving open shots that were missed. Plus, when he posted up, he was doubled or trapped. Or, LMA and Jaason Kidd don't know as much as you do.

media want soundbites and quotes. Players give it to them.

Is this considered baiting? 3 times this guy has called me out.
I think it's ironic you're calling me out for baiting, when you've been constantly spitting out crap about claims I've never made. You reap what you sow. Keep doing what your doing then, king of agendas, PapaG.

I'm wondering where I even mentioned your name in this thread, prior to you calling me out.

Not this thread. Threads before, lots of threads before, but selective memory is also one of your talents, so something like this doesn't surprise me.

I'd like a specific example. You made a specific accusation, so is it too much to ask for proof? I'm not saying I haven't, but I just don't remember.

You've called me out multiple times as being a "Roy basher" even when I've defended the guy. It's fine if you don't remember, but I'm not going to waste my time going through threads to find you a specific example.

I don't understand why people who want Roy to play less are labeled as Roy bashers, when it is incredibly obvious that Brandon isn't in a good place right now. Ben Golliver made a great point in his interview this morning when responding to Roy's "it's all mental" comment, you can't separate the physical and mental problems with Brandon right now because they because they are the basically the same thing.

Ben Golliver is a gigantic douchebag. He's suddenly the authority on what ails Roy?

I would say so. The I-don't-give-a-fuck-just-get-this-interview-over-with kind of lie, though.

So, is that because these specific quotes contradict your opinion, which is what makes them a lie? Or are players always lying, so we should just never take anything a player says at face value?

Quick, somebody link all the posts where PapaG has bashed Andre Miller and Wes Matthews. Obviously he's not a real Blazers fan. He's just a negative Nancy. REAL fans don't criticize the team, the coach, or the players.

I've turned a new leaf. Did it earlier this season, and I even posted about it. I was wrong to spend so much time and energy being negative about things I can't control. 'Dre can't shoot? So what, he's a great passer, so I've focused on that aspect of his game. Call it leading by example, if you will. Did you have a good time the other night, Nate? You seemed pretty upset in that game thread.

Back on topic, PapaG, I don't want to put words in your mouth or parse through a 100-post thread...are you saying that you think Roy played well enough to stay in for 26 minutes, including most of the 4th? I'll concede that Batum and Wes and Rudy weren't lighting the world afire, and that Roy was not nearly the sole reason we lost, but did you like the way he played or how much he was allowed to?

Re: Jason Terry on "Fools", LMA on "Fans" RE: Brandon Roy

Yeah it really makes me sick that Portland fans are so adapt to give up on him so quickly. It's funny that Roy still gets doubled and still is respected by his own teammates; especially the one that is now #1 option on the team. Just don't get it. I can't believe fans are so quick to toss all that a single player has done; especially only being 3.5 months from double knee surgery. Kinda makes me sick.

I don't think a lot of us are saying stuff like that. I take into account the fact he just had surgery. With that said, it's all the more reason why he shouldn't be playing the entire 4th quarter in the playoffs...

This. For at least a couple of decades, many athletes have been coached to provide a carefully white-washed, sterilized set of responses to interviewers.

Obviously, not all athletes do this, but most do, IMO. I generally don't take anything an athlete says for public consumption at face value. Or a coach, or a GM, for that matter.

Bingo. Bango. Bongo.

And that's ultimately why I got out of sports writing. It got boring. If the team wins, the players and coaches say the same exact things. If the team loses, the players and coaches say the same exact thing. Occasionally a veteran would come along who just didn't give a shit anymore and would actually say what's on their minds (Charles Oakley, Dale Davis, etc) but those guys are few and far between. Most players just give the standard, "one game at a time and god willing..." blah blah blah. It gets boring and extremely repetitive.

I don't know if you watched the game then.
do you really think there is the slightest possibility that someone is posting on a Blazer message board and not watching the games? Since I disagree with you should I start throwing out insults saying you have no clue and aren't paying attention to whats happening on the floor and only to your fantasies? maybe you're just playing possum...

I must be losing my eyesight in my old age...

I swear I saw PapaG rage quit from the game thread and going to "the other forum"...

I wasn't raging. It was so fucking tedious reading the same negative posts, over and over, from the same few posters, that I bailed to another forum. It makes the game not fun at all. Plus, I came back after the game to read the thread. That's when I realized that you had ejected as well.

The Professional Fan and Nik both didn't watch Game One. TPF quit watching in the first half, and Nik didn't watch at all. So ... yeah.

So, the actual participants can't be trusted, and only those with wild-eyed, speculative opinions speak the unvarnished truth.

Interesting. That's basically a "nothing matters" argument, then. This could be fun.

Not in what they say to reporters, no. In what they actually think? Perhaps, but I'm unconvinced that we hear that too often.

and only those with wild-eyed, speculative opinions speak the unvarnished truth.

Well, unvarnished truth about what those wild-eyed speculators think, definitely!

Interesting. That's basically a "nothing matters" argument, then. This could be fun.

No, not really. It's more of an "athletes don't tend to pour their true souls out to reporters" argument. Some things matter. America matters. Birth certifications matter.
