I don't think it's that complicated. Quick will latch onto any player that will feed him information. Players use Quick as a mouthpiece to further their own agenda, and Quick uses the players to make himself look better. It's a symbiotic relationship between slimy reporters and slimy players.

Your model held only for Damon Stoudamire. And maybe when Roy bragged that he had told someone (I forgot--GM? Coach?) that he couldn't play with Zach.

Other than those two, I don't remember players voluntarily cooperating with Quick's little kid's game of "Smile, you were really on Candid Camera while I smiled and pretended to be your friend." Gotcha journalism.
