"Jason Quick is dealing with depression"

He must be his own editor?

Admit it, you’re just upset because he’s probably going to have to start mowing lawns through the summer to make ends meet and you dont want the competition.
#BAM

Two separate issues.
1. He is apparently an asshole
2. He is coping with illness.

You can dislike an asshole and still hope for his recovery.
Get better asshole

Today's sun will shine a bit brighter for many of us...

I'd guess he might be done with sports journalism...apparently he's dealing with depression and probably the last thing he needs is to stay in the place that escalated it. I wish him well in his new chapter and hope it suits him better than being a Blazer shit stirrer.

I’m not sure about how I feel calling someone opening up in regards to mental health an “attention whore”.

In today’s day and age I think it’s increasingly important that we normalize accepting being open about that subject. After all, we are in the middle of what could be considered a mental healthcare crisis in this country.

Say what you want about the writer, but don’t clown on the subject matter.

Thank you. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I have major depressive disorder. You can make fun of me, until you make fun of my depression. Have some class.

And no, making fun of the depression because they are "a public figure" doesn't give you a pass. Have some class.

I have never liked quick, but I'll be damned if people mock him or make fun of his depression. That shit is real and it fucking sucks.

I’m with you 100%. I love that my kids and everyone have shrugged off silent suffering.

But in Quick’s case, let’s just say it’s rich. Quick has been vacillating between reporting and raising the collective blood pressure of both the players and the fans for years. I’ve seen him pan restaurants for a bad server, alienate Dame, CJ, Nurk, Marcus Camby, LA, etc etc etc. Sure some was deserved, but dude is a cantankerous muckraker.

Overall, I think, it just takes a lot of irony swallowing to view him as a sympathetic character.

Edit: And he’s not retiring. He’s just done covering the Blazers apparently.

Eh, I don't feel I have to swallow any sort of irony to sympathize. I didn't like him and (most) of his reporting, but he didn't hurt me or anyone else personally.

Now, politicians on the other hand, THATS where it's hard to sympathize, mainly because their "irony" is by voting against things that they then would need help/sympathy on. And that's just consequences of action.

I don't want to make this political, I was just giving an example.

Yeah, if you don't think the young dudes playing basketball don't take this stuff personally, then I don't know what to tell you. Dame called Quick a snake. EVERYTHING I've heard from within the organizations says Deandre Ayton has been personable and awesome. That's coming from people that watch him and know him. You don't think it bothered DA to have bullshit said about him. Did CJ not freak? I could go on and on and on. Players develop thick skin, but players are just young men walking the tightrope of a career, while guys like Quick potshot them if they rub him the wrong way.

Then when he goes through something it's somehow sacred ground. THAT is exactly what irony is. wtf.

(I am not saying pick on Quick. And again, he's not retiring, he's just taking his rain cloud elsewhere.)

I was just speaking for me. Which is why I used I statements.

The "anyone else" is for anyone that I know and care about.

Jesus, dude. What was the point of engaging me then? To say that Quick never wronged you or your friends and therefore it’s not ironic? Well done. You got me.

I liked having a solid reporter that would be thoughtfully critical of the team when warranted. The latter day Quick material felt venomous and veered past reporting and into op-ed material—especially the last one. There’s a place for a columnist that provides context and sourced reportage, but by all accounts Quick had lost the inside line on all his sources and was left to outsider hit pieces.

I can’t imagine the team was thrilled with the way he dumped out his notebook of takes in one last dispatch of glory.

Was I not allowed to clarify? You made it a generality and I clarified my stance.

It's usually how a conversation works when there's a miscommunication, which is why I clarified.

But hey, that's like, your reaction, I guess.

Anyway. It's all cleared up. Have a great day, it's beautiful outside!

Let me clarify something: behavior like this is unbecoming of a moderator. If you want to not make sense to this extent, give up your position so we can put you on ignore if we so desire.

Because there's no stance, nor miscommunication. There's not even anything to clear up. There is only you inserting yourself in a bizzarro anecdotal way into an essentially objective statement, rewriting history, then looking for the last word.

I should've known better to respond to you in the first place. That's on me. It won't happen again (at least probably not).

I'm not seeing anything wrong with Stren's interaction with you. He's not insulting anyone or using his "mod powers" to win an argument or alter or change what anyone was saying. He's a big Blazer fan just like you are, and if this forum and social media proves, just because you're a fan of the same team doesn't mean you all will agree on things.

With the exception of dogs, everyone must love them.

Swear Quick did this same spiel before and said he was done reporting on the Blazers and only going to cover the Ducks then months later he's writing Blazers shit again. I'll believe he's done when we don't hear from him for 2 years.

Kind of a shame of a career as I thought he had some talent and was a good radio interview on Primetime with Isaac and Suke but just way too much of his reporting is gotcha and misrepresentations.

Could really care less of his mental health issues. Just not something I care about with any basketball players or sports media. Not saying it isn't serious, just has zero relevance to sports or why I follow NBA basketball. It's as relevant to me as what's on their Netflix playlist or such.

Wish everyone the best of luck with whatever they need or can do to be more healthy and happy.
