Jaynes: Unbalanced trade coming. BE: It could be for Nash

And we've dealt our 2013 pick, not next year's.

Re: Unbalanced Trade?

Because Miller is old. If we can get a younger player that is his equal now, then we're going to be better off at the position going into the future.

Ed O.

That only works on paper.

Familiarity and intuition among the players and coach from experience playing for some time as a unit trumps most everything else.

If Miller goes, we need a much younger version of Nash, not a rapidly declining Nash.

Otherwise Miller is better for us than Nash could ever be.

Roy and Oden are the pieces we need to move.

For a healthy star center.

I haven't responded to BrianFromWA in this thread.

Your argument is invalid.

Two things:

1. True... you were posting to Nate instead of Brian

2. Nice move to avoid blame, you did a cross over that would break Steve Nash's ankles!

You can put MJ in his prime on this team and it doesn't matter! Nate will not allow this team to get up and go. Further Nate has proven he doesn't have a clue about how to run an offense. This is who we extended first though! In the meantime we fire two capable GM's in a year, one on draft day, and are considering trading the only PG we have for??? When your team is run like the Raiders this is what happens. Paul Allen is really making a great name for the Trailblazers.

Literminstrelal is not happy with this line of questioning.

His arguement has at least as much merit as my statement that Batum is actually 25 not 22 because France uses the metric system.

Who made you King?

Unfortunately the people around him and the media crowned him King before he even graduated from highschool and he just doesn't know any better... he believes his own hype.

Re: Unbalanced Trade?

I like Nash, a lot to give up for him though for 2-3? years tops worth of play?

and I don't think this team is one player (nash) away from being an NBA contender, if Allen and mgmt really believe that then they are fucking delusional....

This team can't even get out of the 1st round...and adding Nash suddenly propels them to NBA title contenders? I don't think so.....

Nash is not worth it and not the way to go, fully agree with U

I seem to have awoken what I will term "the haters."

See what I mean Nate? Now he's acting like he's way better than us... and the lives we have to go back to when he's done posting.

Good grief folks.

I've been as big a Batum booster as anybody...but let's get real. He is a nice role-player, but that's about it. He isn't going to magically turn into a star if he gets traded.

Two things:

1. Even nice role-players have value. A bunch of seasons from a nice role-player can be of much more value to a franchise that 1-2 seasons from a better player.

2. Players getting better as they get older doesn't require magic. It is, in fact, the usual way things work, though it is not guaranteed. If Batum is a nice role-player at 23, he may well be significantly more than that at 26-27.

He has the tattoo and everything!

I agree with the first point, not so much with the second.

There is simply no evidence that Batum will ever become a top-flight rebounder, playmaker or a player that can create his own offense. He may go from "very good" to "great" as a defender, but given the other limitations he has, that won't really elevate him above role-player status.

I don't know if I'd say he's even a "very good" defender at this point. I felt like his defense slipped last season.

Here's the plan, get with the program. Nash plays 2 injury-filled years for the Blazers. When he does play, he drives McMillan nuts with the fast break. McMillan withdraws into Cheeksdom and lets Nash run things. Their contracts both end 2 years from now. The new owner, Paul Allen's sister, does the obvious, and Nash replaces McMillan. Everyone likes this story except Paul Allen.

I don't understand you guys sometimes. Of course Nash is too damn old. Christ, he was plenty old when he was GM here.

I never said he'd become a star or a top-flight player. Just that players are typically significantly better at 26-27 than at 23. In some sense, it's a bit pointless to split hairs over whether he'll be a "good role-player," "super role-player," "low-level star," "legitimate All-Star." Basketball player ability doesn't exist along a group of discrete categories...it's a continuous spectrum. Wherever Batum is now, there's a pretty good chance that he'll be above that level in a few years, regardless of what you or I ultimately label that level. It's not guaranteed, but there's a strong likelihood.

Nash will make a good head coach, and even if he won't, it's our only chance to ever get rid of McMillan.

Nash would bring something the Blazers drastically need which is shooting the long ball. But looking at Kidd play in the Finals, I was more impressed with Kidd's old man defense than his improved shooting abilities. Nash can't play defense and I'm not impressed with that, no matter how good he is.

I would do trade for Nash in a heartbeat. Look how old the NBA champiom's PG was this year. Nash is wayyyy better than Kidd. Nash could take Crash, Matthews, Aldridge, and Oden to title if LaMarcus keeps working on his game all summer.

I don't know if I see it. Who is our Dirk in that scenario? Who is our Jason Terry? The Mavs have a solid bench, we do not.

Dirk = LMA
Terry = Wes
Then we got Crash/Oden on there asses, we got it next year with Nash!

I would be much happier with a healthy Oden then an upgrade at PG but both would be awesome.

POR doesn't have near enough the offensive firepower that DAL has. Need better offensive players, if this team actually wants to go anywhere in the playoffs.

Also a better offensive scheme

Or could the trade be for Joe Johnson and Josh Smith? Rumor has it that Atlanta would love to get rid of Joe Johnson contract and are ready to trade Josh Smith. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_yl...a_draft_062011

Miller, Camby and Mathews for Johnson and Smith; get it done now, try to get their draft pick also and an assurance they will release Miller.

Miller, Camby and Matthews for those two is a joke. Add Batum, and our pick, and then maybe, but still probably no from Atlanta
