Jazz @ Blazers - GAME THREAD

yep it only took a myriad of injuries for them to get a whopping 3 game lead on the Blazers! Bucher is a GENIUS!!!

Ok, Thunder this year, are younger than the Blazers last year. Thats the comparison to make.

How so? Do you believe if we were healthy we'd even be thinking about the Thunder? We'd be contenders for the WCF and a 55-60 win season.

Really??? I dont believe it, we would be fighting with them and the jazz and mavs for 3,4,5 pos

Agreed. Played some great stuff early in the season when we had everyone healthy.

We didn't start playing well until NM ran out of choices.

Just got back from the game. Haven't read a single post in the game thread. So this is just based on what I saw with my own eyes.

It's really simple. Nate's 4th quarter offense is predictable, one-dimensional and easily stopped. Heck, I'll go so far as to say it stops itself. Running down the shot clock to the final seconds on every possession insures you will be forcing up a bad, low percentage shot under pressure. And it shows in the results. This is at least the third time in the last month and a half I've personally witnessed the Blazers blow a sizable 4th quarter lead at home in the final minutes thanks to an offense that simply can't generate points with the game on the line. I saw them get outscore 13-1 over the last 3:34 against Memphis to blow an 8-point lead. I saw them get outscore 10-1 over the final 3:26 to blow another 8-point lead against New Orleans. And now tonight. They blow a 12 point 4th quarter lead and score an anemic 10 points in the quarter.

This is just pathetic, and it doesn't matter what players we have on the floor, the results are the same - an inability to close out games we should be winning going away. And, as far as I'm concerned it's ALL on Nate. EVERY team and EVERY coach in the league knows EXACTLY what the Blazer are going to do in the 4th quarter. And, they have all figured out how to stop it. Because, you see, other coaches learn from their mistakes and make adjustments. Ours just keeps making the same mistakes over and over and over, expecting the results to be different and costing us wins.

So, I'll turn the floor over to the Nate apologists and let them rationalize how this pattern isn't Nate's fault, how great this team is doing in spite of the injuries, and how it's not bad play calling by the coach, but bad execution by the players that is causing the team to blow big leads in the final minutes of games - even though it happens no matter who the opponent and which players we have on the court at the time. When do th eapologists stop making excuses and begin discussing the possibility that the one common factor in all these blown leads is the head coach and his stagnant, predictable, ineffective play calling. The floor is yours.

And if my auntie had a beard, she'd be my uncle.

Loading the team with fragile players is not an excuse - it is part of the problem.

so last year at Feb 21st the Blazers were 35-25.. at the same point the Thunder are 33-21 that is a WHOPPING 3 game lead over a team that lost in the 1st round. Come on man dont give into all this.

Still much better than our "We're only a 1/2 game out of the 8th seed" parade.

who is throwing a parade for that? Look I may not be a the bitching type.. but I'm not clouded by being a fan. This season is about playing hard and showing effort for me. We arent contending this year and honestly thats what I care about.

The fact that we can compare the two teams is cause for concern

I thought Ric Bucher was insance and a Blowhard

But Blazers need to address some major issues

the face that we are even having this conversation is because the team was decimated by injuries. I'm not saying this to downplay the Thunder.. but honestly do you think they can contend with the Lakers and Nuggets? Wouldnt say so. With this team and its Big men healthy.. the do. So unless Bucher said that OKC has a brighter future because how fragile the Blazers are.. then he wasnt correct sorry, but injuries dont make him right.

Well said. Now, if we can just get you to be equally realistic about a certain center....:devilwink:

WINNER!!!!!

This doesn't even take into account the large/or 8 pointish 4th qtr leads that are blown but end up being close victories for Portland.

How some of you can't see this shit is just beyond me.

Watch the final 4 minutes of every game PDX has the lead. The final 4 minutes are the Bermuda Triangle for this team.

the face that we are even having this conversation is because the team was decimated by injuries.

I dont know if Oden and Pryz on the floor really get the Blazers more than 10 points in the 4th....

those are excuses, and giving up a 25 pt lead leaves u with no excuses

nowhere have I made excuses for the 4th Quarter execution tonight. I'm talking about this teams future overall.. in response to you bringing up Bucher. So not sure why you are bringing tonight up. :dunno:

lol ok, i just saw highlights of OKC and how they have been winning everything of late + i am pretty deppressed, so i brought up the fact that maybe Ric was right....

Who in OKC is throwing a we're ahead of the Blazers parade? It was you're concept fella.

Last year I, and many of u, were laughing at Ric Bucher when he wrote an article detailing how OKC had a brighter future than the Blazers...

Looks like he was right

That is where this was brought up OddEnormous.

which is fine.. But do you honestly believe with the Blazers healthy the Thunder are a better team? I know it sucks especially with tonights loss. But for me personally I try my damndest to not respond on pure emotion.

Blazers are Marginally better with healthy team this year, i would say maybe 3 or 4 games better, BUT, the Thunder are a lot younger

BS again - the age stat is merely being thrown off by the Blazers having a few old men on the roster that are not part of the core that we're looking at going forward with.

based on the addition of Howard Miller and now Camby?

Agreed. Played some great stuff early in the season when we had everyone healthy.

We would have sorted the chemistry issues by now. This team hasn't had an opportunity to define roles all season.

No, remove the three oldest players from each roster and compare then

I did the math and got 23.18 ave age for Blazers and 22.91 for the Thunder.

I hope our .27 year championship window doesnt close too fast :devilwink:
