Jazz @ Blazers Pre-Season game 10/11/2010

Elliot Williams can't shoot, air-balling a 3.

we have no big men.... and no easy buckets...

1-3 in pre season. and people think this team is gonna challenge LA?

That would make him Kevin Durant or Lebron ... I'd settle for half

Yeah, it'd be nice if he can get 6 or 7 FT attempts a game. It sounds like he was playing in the low post a lot more tonight. Hopefully that carries over to the real season.

Bayless can be the Chalupa man if he makes the FT

LA: 22pts on 10 field goal attempts.
Rudy: 14pts on 5 field goal attempts.
Roy: 6-9 FG
Camby: 5blks and 3stls in 24mins.

Great to see (hear).

Did I just see right - the box score on iamatrailblazersfan.com, or whatever that web site is, had the Blazers lose the rebounding battle 53-33? Aldridge - and I'm a fan, don't get me wrong - has GOT to start getting some boards. 4 for the whole game from the team's power forward is just unacceptable, especially when you're boxing out a guy who's smaller than you.

So I couldn't help but notice that Batum only played 23 minutes. I brought this up before and was told several reasons why. It's preseason, but I have a feeling Nate will......once again.....limit Batum's minutes throughout the year.

Batum tonight was pretty bad from what I could hear.

For both the second and fourth quarters, we had Dante Cunningham trying to box out Fesenko. It's as simple as that - we had no one on the court within 4" of their center's height.

Batum was alright. There weren't many plays run for him though. There were more screens and off ball movement than last year but it never seemed to result in an easy shot.

Deep Thoughts by HCP......... after attending the game and not looking at a box score yet.........

Paul was in the house. Sitting between Cho and Larry Miller.
Al Jefferson and DWill looked like they were in amazing shape!
1st quarter, Miller and LA seem to have very nice chemistry on the floor
LA looked great in the post tonight. Taking it to the hole and getting to the line a bunch.........that said, Fasenko wore him out. He was too big.
Camby looked great out there on the defensive end.
Bell is still dirty. Thru an elbow at Rudy in the 3rd.
Brandon stayed out of the way in the first half. I could see he was letting them run the offense thru LA, and was trying to let others get involved. I don't like that. He took over in the 3rd, but they need to spread it around.
Rudy was actually on fire tonight. Bombin' 3's and had a nice baseline dunk. He can really help us out this year spreading the court, hope he gets his shit straight.
Bayless is going to be the odd man out if Rudy keeps playing well.
All the threads and talk about our rookies means nothing....... they will NOT get any PT!
Utah killed us on the boards!!!! We need our bigs back, plain and simple.
Sloan does an amazing job at getting more out of his guys then anybody in the league. They seem to always have some no name guys always step up!
Matthews and DWill were going at each other pretty hard in the 3rd.

And most importantly......... I WAS WAY FUCKING WRONG ABOUT WES MATTHEWS!!!!! This cat can ball! He's everywhere! His on the ball D was fantastic, as was his weak side! He surprised me with his ball handeling and court vision. He moves without the ball and just flat out makes great decisions!

I love getting to sit and actually watch a game, once or twice a year is all I get. Haven't read this thread yet, hope I didn't repeat much!

Oh ya, had the pleasure of meeting LOTB! Nice to meet you brother! And Bobby Medina asked who ZachAddy was?

Ben Golliver seems to agree, that he wasn't utilized properly: "Nicolas Batum looked like an underutilized or misused asset on offense. 5 points on 2-7 shooting, 1 rebound, 0 assists in 23 minutes. Tonight on offense Batum was either being asked to do things he cannot do or not being asked to do things he can do. Nothing in the post. Nothing off screens or to exploit mismatches. A lot of standing and watching with few touches. A lot of face-up dribbling and struggling with ball pressure with no one open to feed in the post."

He also mentioned there doesn't seem to be much chemistry developing between Miller and Roy. http://www.blazersedge.com/

According to many here, none of what you just posted is true. They are all wrong though, so good post.

Am I the only person on the board that thinks Miller is done as a legit starter? He picked up right where he left off in the Suns series, and that's a bad thing. He still looks a step slow, doesn't run the offense well and gets continually burned by younger PGs. When Nate pulled him for Matthews last night the Blazers showed a little more life. I'm starting to think that the trade of his expiring deals is almost a certainty.

Well, at least Golliver was at the game, whereas most of us listened on the radio (at best), so I think he might have some credence.

I wish I wasn't at the game at times. Ben had it right in his recap IMHO.

I did notice a lot more screens, not picks, from the offense but they never resulted in easy hoops. It was just like the iso offense from last season when players were just stuck jacking up bad jumpers against the clock. There's a TON of work left to do before opening night.

Since he doesn't agree with what they say, they will discredit him quickly

Were you at the Game? His game is one of smarts not speed, and he can trick you. In fact, I saw him juke DeRon more than once, not to mention guard him just as well as anyone could. Speaking of Smarts, anyone see DeRon try to take a technical foul for us?

I was at the game. Apparently he's tricked some fans into thinking he's a starter. He had one nice move the entire evening and got pulled early and replaced with Matthews in the 2nd half because the Jazz were doing whatever they wanted with him checking Deron.

Golliver sort of laid it at the feet of the players at the end, but the entire article read like a stinging criticism of Coach Nate. If I were the Blazers owner, I'd be very close to turning up the heat on Nate's seat.

?????? Say it ain't so? Not the ISO offense....But Nate wants to run, and the new assistants will have input, and Roy is playing off the ball, and.....and

Millers a guy who is the definition of a veteran. He picks his spots, especially in the preseason. I think he'll be fine. He's 34 and doesn't have any injury history. I'm not too worried. Kidd and Nash are both over 36 and don't seem to have slowed down.

Andre might have been our 2nd most valuable player last year, and i have no prob with him running the point.

My point is that he was rendered completely ineffective against the Suns in the playoffs and hasn't shown any signs of life so far in the preseason. Nate looked like he lost faith in him last night when he gave him the hook early. I know it's early, but I can't see him on this squad past the trade deadline.

He destroyed them in game 1 and then they focused their defense on him every game after that. Unless you were under the impression that he was Michael Jordan (or, even crazier, Kevin Durant) of course he was rendered ineffective. He's never been the kind of amazing scorer that can score effectively against a defense focused entirely on stopping him.

Yes, pre-season is very telling. Roy also hasn't shown much sign of life (Shooter made me aware of this) and his limited minutes show me Nate has lost faith in him. I think Roy's career is probably done. At least, he's done as a starter.

This is becoming really strange...people are posting like this is the first pre-season they've witnessed. Veterans taking it easy and not doing much? omg.
