Everybody played very well tonight. The ball movement was a thing of beauty...

man, how much easier is it to beat the Jazz w/o Kirilenko?

Way easier, he saves Boozer and Okur's no defense playing selves all the time.

He's a great defender

I'm fairly certain Travis, Ruben, indeed anyone who's ever reached the NBA level, has a much, much higher basketball IQ than anyone posting here.

Nobody gets there on talent alone.

I just had to stop and laugh at this.

:biglaugh:  :biglaugh:  :biglaugh:

Okay, carry on.

I had the good fortune to sit right behind the Blazers bench tonight (thanks, Blake!), and I gotta say... the developing player we have that I am most excited about is Batum. His versatility on defense and heady, controlled approach on offense is so impressive for such a young guy. His ceiling is sky high, that's for sure.

Wouldn't mind seeing him for a few more minutes a game...

Why no more love for Joel tonight?? Hello? Anyone? I'm the only one who's mentioned him.
I just watched the game recap on ESPN, and they didn't mention him either. Joel was awesome. As was Batum. And Roy was Roy! :) And Sergio was the MVP of the first quarter. Well, 6 minutes of it anyway, until Nate rotated him out.

Yep, what a difference a day makes. That should quiet the criticism of his game for a couple days.

Is it too late in this thread for me to bitch about that horrific call by the ref on the highlight reel behind the back move and bucket by Rudy -- that was called a travel? I mean seriously, WTF? Horrible call.

I was waiting with bated breath for the term "crab dribble" to be used...

my buddy I was at the game with yelled "CRAB DRIBBLE" right after that play!!!:biglaugh:

on a more serious note, does anyone else think nasty thoughts when they hear the term "crab dribble"?

Joel is a BEEEEaST!

Just got back from the game. Great team effort. Joel was awesome. Batum was sensational. Roy showed why he's an all-star. The whole team played great.

With Boozer and Kirilenko out, Utah is Deron Williams and a bunch of big, slow, plodding white guys with funny sounding names. Williams basically gave up trying to pass the ball after the first quarter. Can't say I blame him.

As far as the officiating goes, two words: Dick Bavetta. God, it seems he's reffed every game we've gone to this year. Time to hang up the whistle and start collecting the Social Security checks. When he made that phantom foul call on Rudy, he just kept smacking himself in the head, over and over and over and over as he walked toward the scorer's table. I couldn't figure out what he was trying to signal. Rudy wasn't anywhere Millsap's head (didn't touch him at all, in fact). Even the score keeper couldn't seem to figure out what Dick was trying to call so Dick kept smacking himself in the head. I was beginning to wonder if he'd lost it. Oh well, ball don't lie. Millsap missed both FTs and the Blazers immediately got the make-up call on the rebound of the 2nd miss.

Anyway... fun game and an important win over a division rival who is fighting for a play-off spot. There was a two game swing at stake tonight. We won, so we're now 4 games ahead of Utah. If we'd have lost, we'd only be two games ahead of them. Nice to have a little cushion. Anyone know the last time we were 12 games over 0.500? I'm guessing it was sometime in 2002.

Great quote from B-Edge:

Also when I had a chance to glance around in the fourth quarter I noticed something that struck me. Brandon Roy and Lamarcus Aldridge don't look like kids anymore. They're starting to look like men in their facial features and bodies as well as their play. In a way that's sad for me. I'm going to miss that fresh-faced, sky's-the-limit optimism of their early years. However it's good for the Blazers' chances of actually winning something. I shudder to think what impression they're going to leave in another two years.

Exactly how I felt in the third when BRoy and LA took complete control of the game. Man, how rewarding is it to see our guys play so well now after watching the team struggle through the rebuilding period? Having gone through that stage makes me appreciate what we have right now that much more.

I was at that game as well, sitting next to a group of visiting Chinese students. A few of them wanted to know what that foul was all about, and for the life of me, I didn't know what to tell them. "Illegal forehead slap"? "Doh, I can't remember why I blew my whistle, but I've got to make it reeeeeeeally dramatic to SELL the foul"? However, I did take that opportunity to teach them that very phrase: "Ball don't lie".

I see it has already been said, but damn, Joel was money. We are so lucky to have him as a "backup" while Greg gets his NBA legs under him!

do the smart people repeat the same crap ad nausea?

By age 24 guys are done getting better athletically, but they do usually get better at the mental part of the game... even the stupid ones. You do know that this isn't rocket science right?

I meant his game could improve.... better handles... better defense... better shooting.... etc.

You're right, this isn't rocket science... but the game happens at an extremely quick pace, and some people can't keep up. Either way, I'm tired of talking about Travis. Every time I say he isn't the sharpest tack, people get butt hurt.

Great win. Any time you shoot a high percentage, and dominate the paint you will give yourself an excellent chance to win. That, is what wins in the playoffs, and that is what we are building toward by end of season.

I would also like to say when it comes to "Put on your hard hat and go to work" players that Joel Pryzbilla is one of my favorites of all time. I believe Joel is having the best year of his career, not excluding his contract year which he played pretty well in.

Yeah, great win to put some more separation between us and them. Good to get it behind us. Now Mixxer can declare the next game vs. the Hornets THE make or break game of the year. Then it'll be the Dallas game on Wednesday. Then it'll be Friday's match @ OKC that's MUST WIN. NYK will be a must-must win and then OKC again will truly and once and for all determine our playoff fate . . . until the next game. It just never stops.

Not as tired as I am of reading all the hate Travis posts throughout winning game threads.

Can't anyone enjoy a game without hating on our own players? Travis is a bench player with a good contract and as much as some of you want to trade him, I doubt that will happen. It would be nice if Travis could be accepted for what he brings to the floor. He's a good shooter that brings the rest of his game when it's needed most. That's why he comes up with big plays in the 4th and frustrates us at other points of the game. He is who he is and it takes all kinds to make a team. I hope he remains a Blazer for a long time. You can tell he's one of the most liked Blazers. Just not by you and yours.

He always seems to have good years when healthy. I hope he can stay on the floor through the playoffs.

It's pretty weird because when Oden's in, I find myself counting his every point and rebound - just so he can notch another double-double. With Vanilla in, you turn around and the guy's got 14 rebounds before you know it and ends up with 14pts and 17rebs on the night. Thank the lawd he's on our team to take a lot of the pressure of Oden this year!

great! I for one am tired of hearing about it but that goes for any poster who insists on posting the same crap day after day regardless of actual play. Travis isn't the greatest player ever and has flaws like most every player in the history of the league. He also has abilities and overall has played decent ball this season in the eyes of both some posters and also the management of the club. I don't know how you couldn't recognize his game has steadily improved since he came into the league... better handles... better defense... he's even added a jump shot from scratch and now shoots one of the highest 3 point % on the club. Yet game after game seemingly regardless of results, a few posters enjoy a bitchfest about this years chosen punching bag... even in blowouts over division rivals in a game where he plays well.

Dude has been playing pretty effective ball for a good stretch now. Here's a quick look at his stats the last 10 games. Hell 41% from deep for the season doesn't exactly suck. He is more then "keeping up," in fact he is regularly helping the club win games. Fans complaining in this situation aren't causing other fans to "get butt hurt" but they are being an unnecessary pain in the ass.

Could the team make a move and upgrade? Sure... across the board. No one on the club is the best in the league at their position, not even Roy.

Great point. Totally agree.

Side note: Oden's fouls last night were largely ref generated. It's like the refs are EXPECTING Oden to foul now, even if he isn't fouling at all. It's very frustrating, and not at all Oden's fault.

? Were you watching the game? Oden deserved every foul he got last night.

You're exaggerating. I hardly talk about Travis day after day. You're making me sound like Maris for pete's sake. I can count on one hand the number of times that I've gotten into it with people about Travis' intelligence. Sure, I'm not his biggest fan, but I don't rail on the kid on a daily basis.

Whatever... you haven't liked me since we got into it months ago. People in this community hold grudges like none other.

????:dunno:

I've never "railed" on any Blazer player that I can recall, and certainly not TO. He's one of my favorite players.

My gripe is usually the misuse of a player's talents, or with posters with a limited view of the game.

I want every Blazer to succeed.

Bake it!
