Jefferson for Odom? Not Likely

What a shame. I'm not sure about Diaw/Barbosa since they last until 2012, but I'd surely welcome the expir-I mean, Lamar Odom.

I wouldn't be wary of contract year shooters like Vujacic. It's not like he decided before the season that he would just start shooting better because that has always been what he's supposed to do. It's when slashers that are in contract years decide to put up big inflated numbers. It is hard for a shooter to inflate his numbers.

Unloaded RJ for expirings, signing Pietrus and Vujacic would be a dream come true,however.

Well, that probably would mean that I'm done as a nets fan, since I came with VC, and I will leave with VC, but if Paul Pierce got the chance to be on a great team, VC deserves it too.

It's not a bad deal for NJ, since VC's contract is even longer than RJ's, while RJ and Odom each expire just in time for Lebron and Wade

Odom expires after next year (June 2009) while RJ expires in June of 2011.

Btw: Why would LA ask for Carter? They said they need to get tougher, AND Kobe is their starting shooting guard. It makes absolutely no sense.

Dave D doesn't really make a good case of why RJ to Odom is a bad deal. The contract? LA is such a huge market team that they are not likely to care. If they believe that RJ can turn back into a good defender, they'd jump on him in a second. Even at this point in time, LA will be getting Bynum back next year, which makes their starting lineup Bynum - Gasol - Radmanovic - Bryant - Fisher. Even if RJ's defense doesn't come back to the same level as it was a few years ago, he's a huge improvement over either Walton or Radman. He's just as good of a shooter, a much more polished scorer, a better slasher, defender... the list goes on. If they can't work out a deal with Artest for some reason, they will either leave the team alone and let Odom expire, or they'll pull the trigger on someone like RJ.

I think Carter is fine at SF. he is one of the strongest SGs in the league. One of the best rebounders also. has the height and weight too... Doesn't like to run around without the ball, and that's a weakness for a SG, but fine for a SF.
He is a better shooter than RJ too, and Lakers need a good shooter SF.

Yes they need to get tougher, but putting in Bynum at Center, and pushing Gasol to PF makes them a lot tougher already.

The biggest problem the lakers had was the defense paying too much attention to Kobe. With Carter, no more triple teams on Kobe. RJ works too, but Carter is a bigger offensive threat.

Maybe better? Imo that team would kick the shit outta the "dream team" the Lakers had that couldn't even win the finals. They would shit all over the league b/c although there are a lot of stars the only selfish one is Bryant and for good reason. Also they are both mature enough to work together and forget the Vc-Kobe beef. Doesn't matter though it will never happen.

Barring injury, there's no way that team couldn't win the title. Hell, without Carter, they're favorites to win the title. No need to hand it to them (a la Minny).

VC to the Lakers? They will need to play with 2 basketballs to get enough touches for Carter, Kobe, Gasol and Bynum. Seems a little too drastic. Why doesn't LA pursue someone like Maggette, or perhaps rape Memphis again; this time for Mike Miller?

I'd be down for an RJ-Odom swap. Obviously I covet a certain 2010 FA; that's a given. I think a VC-Odom oriented offense could give us more opportunities on the offensive end since Odom can match RJ's midrange game. Additionally, it allows for interesting match ups with Gallinari and Odom playing on the court at the same time at the 3 and 4, respectively. In that scenario you're playing "big ball" but are filling your roster with shooters and cutters; very skilled.
