Hilarious....

I have to admire Jennings Moxie....It is not like he excelled either IMO...but I do think it oulines the risk of drafting Rubio...Even if he does hit the "big" expectations of him as an NBA player, I think that is going to take him several years to reach that....

BTW...watch Jonny Flynn laughing...you know this has probably been a topic of discussion amongst many of the college PG's in this draft.....

On one hand, Jennings played against him for one game, so he has that to point to for evidence of his opinion. On the other hand, he played against him for one game.

I'm not going to base my thoughts on Rubio on Jennings' opinion.

yet rubio has already 10x what brandon "i cant make it in college so i got my butt planted int europe" jennings has done...:)

Ridiculous.

Rubio is a year younger and puts up much better numbers already. I love the stupidity of this quote...

"And you know, his stats? 26 minutes, and he be having like 16 points, 7 assists [inaudible] steals? Come on. Twenty-six minutes, and you have all that?"

Yeah...he does. And you don't. Brandon Jennings seems like a friggin' moron if you ask me.

I have no idea how good this guy is going to be, but I love the comments from Jennings just because it ruffles the feathers of all the people here who think that Rubio is the next John Stockton.

I think Rubio is going to be very good - but I love the comments as well. Sure makes life more interesting when these kids are not all PC and admire each other and are each other's biggest fans...

Nothing wrong with some public trash talking imho. Character is a good thing...

yeah spanish league starter in the playoffs....vs bench warmer in the italian league playoffs.....yeah.

Yep. My mind is made up. Thanks Brandon!

Bring on Flynn!

Jenning's insecurities are showing. So much for his European vacation making him more mature!

Brandon Jennings is a poor man's Sebastian Telfair.

I think it was funny. They wouldn't stop badgering him about Rubio, so he gave them a juicy quote.

Of course it's silly - in the one game they played Rubio was just coming back from injury and couldn't use one hand. DraftExpress had coverage of it:

Having sat out the entire season thus far, besides a short 2-minute spurt last weekend in the ACB, this obviously wasn’t the best time to evaluate Ricky Rubio’s progress. Regardless, there were a couple of things to take away from watching him play (briefly) against Rome and in practice the following day.

-His impact extends far beyond his ability to score:

We always knew this, but watching him play with only one hand (in practice it was almost painful to watch him shoot two-handed layups, air-ball mid-range jumpers and brick free throws) only amplified this point. Rubio got his hands on every ball even remotely in his area in the game we saw the moment he stepped out on the court—causing deflections and turnovers on a couple of occasions. His knack for getting in the passing lanes is nothing short of amazing, and he’s an absolute nuisance playing defense on the ball.

In addition, he was able to display his terrific court vision repeatedly, as he is simply unable to score with his right hand being in the shape it’s currently in. He was able to beat Brandon Jennings off the dribble badly on two separate occasions, and repeatedly delivered incredibly creative passes to teammates that surprised even them based on the way they reacted. They apparently either didn’t understand his brilliance or just aren’t used to being fed that way. A play at the end of the first half did a great job demonstrating his outstanding instincts—as he corralled a rebound with about two seconds remaining, and immediately whipped a full-court outlet pass to a streaking teammate for an easy layup just as time expired.

-He’s a natural born leader, and extremely likable on top of that

The moment Rubio came into the game, he immediately began directing traffic and instructing them where to go. In practice, he quietly demonstrates to players close to twice his age where they should be on the floor in a certain set or drill. During shoot-around, he jokes around in English with the foreigners, and in Spanish with the local players. As they are going through a certain drill—the team runs until Coach Alonso claps, at which point the players must begin to sprint—Rubio shows his playful side by clapping himself mid-stride, which the players must have seen before, as no one fell for it. He has a special quality about him, there is no doubt about it, and it’s pretty obvious that he’s extremely well-liked by his teammates. The fact that he’s even playing right now is a testament to how much he wants to help his team win.

BTW, didn't Jennings skip both the NBA Combine and the Reebock Eurocamp? Makes you wonder what he is hiding.

I have no idea what, or what not Jennings knows. However I have a friend that is a European scout who says basically the same thing. Including Rudy that makes 3 people "in the know" that say similar things.

Rudy most certainly did not say that. What he said was "He’s a very good player, but I don’t know if he is prepared to play in the NBA".

One would assume that he does not think that he would never be able to - not prepared for a very young prospect is to an extent expected. Most 18 years old players are not prepared...

Very different from "all hype"...

Let's face it - do we know any of the other PGs in this draft are ready?

Well it ought to make games b\t the two of them interesting....

Look, part of this is surely bravado by Jennings, he has a history as an over cocky kid....He was baited about Rubio repeatedly, but obviously there is some envy? there....Also, as I said in my OP, it is not like he has torn it up in europe hmself...far from it....

I give him credit for speaking his mind and take the bravado with a grain of salt....what I like about Rubio is that when you watch him or read about others who have evaluated him the majority of praise about him is regarding his court vision, ability to find teamates in a position to excel....I don't read or see that with Jennings nearly as much...

If Greg Oden is ever going to excel as an NBA player, he is going to need a PG who understands and plays by that philosophy, but who also create for themself......I don't see that player on our roster....yet....Bayless maybe, I really like that he has taken it upon himself to work out with Greg, nothing but good things can come of that IMO....

What's the big deal?

Rubio would be the perfect backup for Sergio.

Now...who is the perfect coach for that scenario?:dunno:

The Rubio hate is unwarranted. The guy is 18 and put up solid numbers in the 2nd toughest League in the world.

He is right. Rubio is 100% hype. No way he makes it.

The "2nd toughest League in the world"??! You mean the D-league? Any league not the NBA is a league of dudes wishing they were the NBA

i hope jenning doesnt get drafted or maybe he could go to the clippers or memphis or sactown so he can nut up. :P

I see nothing wrong with what he said.. he thinks he is a better player, nothing wrong with that.

thinks and being is two completely different like me saying i am better than MJ due to me winning over him while he is in a wheel chair and i am 25! :P

didn't Rubio also skip both the NBA Combine and the Reebock Eurocamp? Does that make you wonder what he is hiding?

:dunno: I think everyone knows what he is up to....he is trying to manipulate the process and control who drafts him. Isn't he also limiting private work-outs to select teams?

Jennings doesn't have that luxury. If he wants to go top 10, he needs to sell himself to teams.

Rubio won't work out with other top picks and won't even work out for most teams.. Actually I haven't even heard about him working out for anyone. Jennings will definitely go top 10.

Funny - here's what Jennings posted on his own blog just after the game he played against Rubio:

Now to what everyone wants to hear about, the game and the matchup with Ricky. Unfortunately Ricky only played about 8mins cause he’s still kind of hurt from a wrist injury he suffered in the Gold Medal game vs. Team USA, but in just 8mins he showed me a lot. I have a ton of respect for the dude. He’s real mature out there on the court, he has a great feel for the game. He passes the ball like crazy, reminds me of Steve Nash a little bit. Put it like this if he were in the class of 09 in high school basketball he would be the #1 player hands down. No question about it. I can only hope that when Ricky and I one day get to the NBA we can be like Chris Paul and Deron Williams, as our careers take off together like CP3 & D Will’s did. Despite what the critics say that he can’t shoot Ricky is going to be going a Great NBA player someday…he brings a complete game to the table.

I'd be pretty surprised if Jennings didn't go top 10... he's pretty much a lock. Dude is top shelf athletically and will have ample opportunity to shine in the private team workouts going up against 2-3 others. Most teams have scouted him for years as he's been a top prospect in this underwhelming class for some time.

Draft Express currently has him going at 11 (as does NBADRAFT.net). They also have him rated 6th among PGs.

By all accounts he does have great speed/quickness. So does Telfair. His size is suspect (probably why he skipped the combine) and he has yet to prove he can actually QB a team against high level competition.

For the record, I don't "hate" the kid....there is nothing personal about my doubts. I just don't understand all the hype. I honestly see him as just another Telfair. Heck, Sergio had more success in Europe, and look how he turned out!

I suppose it isn't worth worrying about. Even if the Blazers do trade up, I can't imagine it would be to chase Jennings.
