Jeter question????

When it comes time for Jeter's number to be retired should he be honored with a plaque or do you think his career warrants him having the 8th monument?
 
Honsetly, I'd give him a Monument.....

He's scaled peaks no other Yankee Legend has......

more games, Hits, Runs, yada yada yada.......

I know those Monuments are reserved for being Mt. Rushmore worthy....but, Our Captain has reached heights, even those Rushmore Legends, have not...just my opinion....

carve RE2PECT into the Monument as well......
 
I'm a little confused, on yesterday telecast they said there were 7 monuments, but for the life of me I can only think of 5. The 3 original monuments that once stood on the field of Gehrig, Huggins & Ruth. And later (1996) Mickey Mantle. And (1999) Joe DiMaggio. Now I've never been to the new stadium so one of you guys that may have been there recently will have to help me out. I'm thinking MAYBE the boss Stienbrenner but I'm not sure. Still it doesn't come out to 7.

your right Rick, they effed up on TV didn't use their fingers to count.

There are just like you said, those you noted plus King George's Monument, make 6, and I didn't even use my toes, or fingers.........

Monument! I'd restructure Monument Park too.... 1 section for monuments & 1 section for plaques. While at it I'd unretire some numbers

Monuments: Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Mantle, Berra, Jeter, Huggins, McCarthy, Stengel, Steinbrenner, & 9/11
Plaques: everyone else
Unretire numbers for Reggie, Guidry, & maybe more

I agree Steve & I'd add as unretired numbers, Billy Martin & Roger Maris. But I'd give them plaques.

I knew I was forgetting Billy Martin..... Not thinking I'd unretire Maris though

I know he had the one incredible season & another very good one but all told lets be honest he 5 good years with the Yankees. I just don't think that warrants retiring a number/

I'll go on record as saying Derek Jeter is the BEST all around shortstop in MLB history.

20 seasons at shortstop, gold glove caliber (and winner), one the very best best at making catching catches with his back to the infield....one of the very best (and THE best according to Don Zimmer) at charging in, and making the play on slow rollers. A .300 career hitter and a BETTER World Series hitter,
....one of the very best baserunners of his time.....
....currently 259 HRs, 1291 RBI, .821 OBP AND 356 SB.

Cal Ripkin? Great player - yep.
More range than Jeter? Nope. Played 20 years at SS?... Nope. A slug on the base paths lol.
Moved over to 3b later in his career.

Ozzie Smith? Fabulous defensive shortstop- Was he the hitter Jeter has been? NOPE!

Ernie Banks? Great player - terrific hitter...also player HALF his career at first base.

Honus Wagner? Well.... if you want to compare a dead ball era player with today's players...go right ahead.

I'll take Jeter.

I know he's not got the seniority, yet, and I don't want to detract from Jeter's well deserved glory, yet..........can you say Tulo........!

Best Defensive pctg. of all SS of all time, leads the NL in B'Avg too. just sayin......!

Mo should be getting a monument also as the hands down greatest closer and reliever of all-time
 
Give the Greatest Closer ever known to man, his Monument Now....ie, MO'........!!!
