This dude has no business being a head coach but he’s a very good defensive mind from the pop tree, and if I’m Olshey I’m making hiring someone like him to Terry’s staff (lets be realistic he’s not going anywhere) to run the defense a priority. For as bad as he was as in Chicago, they still brought it defensively (ranked top 10 in DRTG) which is pretty impressive considering how young they were.

Can anyone tell me what responsibilities each coach has for the team? I keep hearing we don't have a defensive coach but that opens a question as to what responsibility each coach has. Anyone able to fill in the blanks on the coaches below?

Dale Osborne

Nate Tibbets

Jim McCullough

Jim Moran

Jannero Pargo

Isn't Jeff Bzdelik available now that Gentry is getting let go?

Nate Tibbets is running the defense. There was an article a few weeks back, can't remember where i read it.

You don’t stick around the league for as long as Boylen has if you don’t know what you’re doing. Every nba team he’s been with has been in the upper half of the league defensively. He has three rings. I couldn’t care less about his decisions as a head coach, because it’d be irrelevant as an assistant. The guy is gonna get picked up quick (unless he CHOOSES not to coach) and hopefully it’ll be by portland.

Bzdelik has a far better resume, no?

Not even close.
Not sure you know what you're talking about.

Boylen has been around the NBA since only 2013. Bzdelik has had varying roles from scout to head coach to defensive lead asst for the past 30 yrs. Hell, he's even been head coach for 70 more games than Boylen.

Not even close? WTF

Err, looked up Boylen, and he's been around since the 90s as well as an asst on the Rockets' title teams. Still think these guys are close. Still prefer Bzdelik given his defensive rep. Pels really missed him in the Bubble

His last several years in Chicago they have been in the bottom 5 of the league in defensive rating.

Pelicans weren’t a good defensive team all year. Boylen has three rings with two different teams and his squads are consistently good defensively. Even the young bulls were top 10. What has Bzdelik ever won? He’s a good coach but Boylen is another level.

Fwiw,

"IF", Boylen improves the D, Stotts and NO can take credit for it. But,,

If the D does not improve, the blame will be on Boylen.

Stotts and NO have used an age old tactic of placing a layer between themselves and a problem.

Q. How much good can Boylen do in only 3 weeks?

Boylen is a paid scapegoat.

Guys have raved about results from hiring Hakeem for a weekend class ....both Lopez brothers did that....Gurg's camp is a regular tuneup pit for bigs....it's not unusual. CJ hired Steve Nash to work on his handles years ago...3 weeks with a big man coach in training camp is a bonus no matter how you look at it...we've got a lot of bigs on the roster now

Players won't listen to this clown.

From that tweet, it's not even clear if he is working with players at all, just consulting with staff?

Let's consult with a defensive minded coach, but let's not add one to the staff
