OT Jimmy Butler to Philadelphia

It's a solid financial move for Minny, even if the basketball fit isn't the greatest. Saric can be flipped in another deal since he's on a nice rookie contract for another couple of years. I could see them being a player in another deal down the road.

Both are decent players, Covington is way over paid in my opinion. I have 0 idea what CJ's trade value is.

Thing is, CJ is more than a "decent" player. (Some) people acted like any offer from Portland that didn't start and finish with CJ, was a lost cause.

I agree CJ is more than a decent player, but we don't know how Minnesota values our other players. Theres a good chance they weren't interested in any of the packages we could've offered that didn't include CJ.
I don't know.

That's not the same. I don't get why people think Portland is held to different standards when it comes to trading.

I guess, I'm not sure why you believe I think they are held to a different standard. I'm just saying we don't know what Minnesota would have valued on our team, or if they would've required CJ to be involved or not. Maybe they really liked Saric, or wanted to send Jimmy to the east? I have no idea. I don't know what Minnesota would've wanted from the Blazers.

Covington/Saric/crappy pick for Butler/Patton? That;s actually not bad in terms of what MIN got back. I didn't think they would get that much.
Two solid young first round players.

Huh, I was told the Blazers would have to include CJ in trade talks. Neither of those guys are CJ.

Who else would we include to match that deal? We don’t have equivalents of Covington and Saric. Our players are either better (Lillard, CJ and Collins as a prospect) or considerably worse (everyone else).

The only prospect we have on the Saric and Covington level, today was Zach Collins. If the sixers were looking for two good young prospects that are proven in the league, we couldn't have made a deal. Maybe nurkic, but they had no need for two young bigs. At least covington can play the 3 spot and has great d.

I think this was a good deal for minnesota.

Butler will leave Minnesota anyways so at least they got something back in Dario and Covington. Not like us when LMA left and we got nothing.

Well the Blazers didn't get him, so maybe they would've had to include CJ.

Maybe that is what was being asked of Portland. CJ, Turner, (another player) and a 2nd rnd for Butler and another player or 2.

I am sure Olshey was trying to bring them down, but with Paul gone who knows what happened with it.

With Butler benching himself maybe the Timberwolves got a little desperate and took less to get it done. Saric and Covington are good players and even though they may be an ill fit, the timberwolves will see how it works. Maybe Saric gets traded later this season. They could sorely use Covingtons defense.

Butler will help Philly who will use Simmons at the 4 and maybe even get something out of Patton in their thinned front court off the bench.

Patrons hurt.

Well, they gave up Zach Lavine (he of 27 ppg) and Markkanen (15 ppg last year) for Covington and Saric...so....I'm not sure if that's a compelling argument in their favor anymore.

this because LA didn't work with Neil as Butler did with Thibs. In fact LA misled the franchise including Paul Allen.
That to me is being a weasel...

Philly bench is garbage at best. You can't win with that, I'm sorry.

Yeah but that was a year ago and back then basically everyone thought it was a bargain for a proven superstar like Butler. It’s only a year after once Butler has sulked and demanded to be traded that people are hating that deal from a year back, and even Bulls fans were mad for them to be matching Kings offer sheet for LaVine - his explosion has been totally unexpected.

That's not a bad deal at all.

I think we could have had him for CJ, but honestly with how he has acted and his contract status, the trade really wasn't worth it.

Minnesota got a great deal, good for them.

And I bet Butler stays in philly.

Yup. A rare win-win. RoCo and Saric is a solid return. Butler, Simmons, Embiid is a legit big three. Thibs did good in the end.

Minnesota needed shooters and got 2 good shooters. The trade actually pisses me off.

Who are the two good shooters that Minnesota got back?

Covington has a career FG% of 40.0% and 3P% of 35.9%, although he is shooting better this year (small sample).

Saric has a career FG% of 42.7% (horrible for a big man) and a 3P% of 35.1%. This year (small sample) his FG% is 36.4% and 3p% is 30.0%.
