Jimmy Butler wants out? (He does.)

The worst part about this is we’re a couple days away from hearing about how Portland was in on Butler, but couldn’t get it done because Thibs didn’t want to trade in division, or whatever bullshit Olshey throws at Woj.
Yeah, because Portland has the first right of refusal before any of the other 28 teams can offer trades to Minnesota.

Brooklyn can offer Carrols expiring plus someone like RHJ. That’s probably more attractive than anything we can offer short of CJ.

If Im portland though I say everyones available except Dame and CJ and Im willing to give up picks too.

Is that assuming you traded CJ to get Butler?

I'm not so sure.

Yes, Butler is more efficient on the offensive end than C.J. and on the defensive end, it's not close. I think Butler is the missing piece that puts this team over the top the same way Buck Williams did to those early 90s Blazers teams who also struggled to get past the first round until he arrived.

Of course, I also thought the same thing about Paul George and Kawhi Leonard, and we didn't get them either...

BNM

Pretty clear he wants to be the #1 guard (and ball handler) on a team in a major market. There's no way he resigns here if they swing a deal.

Maybe he's trying to set up a place where Kyrie and Kawhi can join him next summer

Unfortunately for him, Minny does hold some sort of leverage in this and can trade him wherever the hell they want. Unfortunately for us, they probably don't want to deal him within the division and are dumb enough to uphold such tenets.

He wants to be paid, that’s what this sounds like. Literally nothing more..well maybe living in a nice city too. What a “competitor.”

I think we'd have to take Dieng in any deal. Brooklyn and other teams might not be willing to do that but that has to be our move if we want this to happen.

Pretty much. Although the clippers have a bunch of expirings and could use Dieng.

If we can't get him, can we be the 3rd team and help facilitate a trade and get something we need in return?

Of those teams, he should go to the Knicks. They could make the playoffs with him and Porzingis is better than any player on either the Nets or Clipps.

Porzingis probably won't be back until the all star break this year. And who knows about his future after an ACL? Not an easy injury to come back from while 7'3.

New York: Don’t see a match there, not financially, not assets wise.

Brooklyn: the most likely scenario. They have a huge expiring in Carroll, plus desirable, controllable assets in RHJ, Russell, and or LeVert.

Clippers: Can offer numerous expirings (Gortat, Tobias, Milos, Beverley, etc) and have young assets Brooklyn would probably want in Gilgeous-Alexander and Jerome Robinson.

As mentioned before, our only chance is if we took on Dieng.

If that was true; why would he want to join a Kyrie team?

Well we don't know that Minnesota necessarily wants expirings though.

I'm sure the Wolves are happy they gave up the #7 pick for Butler last year. There's no player in potential deal with the upside of Markkanen.

Somehow I want to turn this into blaming Olshey
