Jimmy Butler wants out? (He does.)

Does his list make any of you view him differently? Are you less inclined to pay a steep price for him now?

It’s such an obvious move. Even if Butler leaves after a year. At least we clear a bunch of salary. But you know Neil will never do it. Probably thinks CJ is better than Butler too.

See, I don't know how to take what you say sometimes. On one hand you say stuff like "free agents never come here", then you advocate for getting rid of CJ for Butler by saying that even if Butler skips town after a year, it'll be ok because we'll have cap space...

If Butler leaves that would be a disaster of a trade.

Yes and no. I'm glad Damian doesn't want to ring chase, but I don't think going to Portland could be considered ring chasing tho.

Butler did very little as expected, his first couple years in the league and was selected 30th.
Im thinking that GTjr will be a similar type player in a couple years.

I'm sure the Wolves are happy they gave up the #7 pick for Butler last year. There's no player in potential deal with the upside of Markkanen.

If only Meyers spoke with a Finnish accent and David Kahn was still MIN's GM...

Not one bit.

If your team truly has a great culture and are aligned toward competing for a championship, a free agent is highly unlikely to leave.

I'd still offer CJ without thinking twice about it, because Butler is THAT much better of a player.

I could see Trent Jr. being an efficient scorer who gets to the line, like Butler, but I don't think he'll ever have Buter's defensive chops. His third year in the league, Butler was 2nd team All Defense.

The good news is rookie Trent Jr. will be 2 and a half years younger than rookie Butler and looks to be a significantly better 3-point shooter.

Butler is a big time outdoorsman, so if we can convince him buy a house in West Linn and get into Bicycling, and left wing progressive politics , may we'd have a chance in acquiring him?

Yes. He cares about getting paid, not about winning.

Since we don't know the teams on his list, I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion.

To me, given that his beef the last two years has been young guys who aren't putting in the effort on the defensive end, I'd say he cares very much about winning.

I don't see any reason he can become a solid defender as he's still young and seems to have that chip on his shoulder to allow him to D up!

I said worst case scenario you clear salary. That shouldn’t be Portland’s goal, but if it happens, it isn’t all bad. You lose McCollum but we weren’t going anywhere with him anyway.

For matching purposes I don’t see why they wouldn’t. I don’t see anyone giving up a top

You get more in return than a rental though.

Did you miss the report that his list consisted of the Nets, Knicks and Clippers, or do you just not believe it?

Knicks president Steve Mills said at a fan town hall event on Monday that his team would not trade assets for a player it felt was attainable in free agency.

"We're going to build this team the right way," Mills said, in response to a fan's question. "What we're not going to do is trade away assets to get a [free agent] that we can go get on our own later."

Neil: Hi (Jimmy Butlers agent), its Neil Olshey. Calling about Jimmy and just checking to see if he has any interest in coming to Portland. I know there's no guarantee he'd stay past this year, but we'd love to have him. Before I call MN I want to know if he'd be open to it.
Butler's Agent: No, he really wouldn't but thanks for calling.
Neil: Click

I believe Thibideau will trade him before the season. He seems like a no nonsense guy that would not want to deal with the drama that would come along with him sticking around. He also realizes the value of Butler and I don’t believe he will be bullied into taking a deal that wouldn’t help his club.

My problem is that he had problems with team mates in Chicago and now Minnesota. To me to give guy like CJ or and give up draft picks don't make sense if Butler going have problems who he plays with all the time.

"Butler wants a trade to a team that plans to sign him to a five-year, maximum contract that could be worth $190 million in the summer, and his list could expand based upon the Timberwolves' and rival teams' willingness to negotiate a trade for him, league sources said"

Seems doable to me. If Paul will pay the luxury tax.
