He's gone, by the way, and Williams, age 21, is averaging more points, rebounds and blocks this seasonthan Martin, age 30, is.</p>

And oh yeah, Martin hurt his back last night.</p>
 
Kidd should work hard with Shaun Williams as far as timing and coordination. The Kid is better than Martin during his rookie year. Last night against Miami Kidd has so many turnovers and he looks sloppy. The thing with Williams is he does not have to jump so high like Martin because of his extraordinary long wing span.</p>
 
He'll never be as valuable as Martin because he is not a shut-down perimeter defender.</p>

The second the Nets lost that confidence that they could stop anyone in a crucial possession is when they went from being a serious title contender to a pretender.</p>

Maybe they can be more aggressive on the perimeter because Williams is such a gifted shot-blocker, but it's tough to build a defense around him because he is always going to be in foul trouble.</p>

He didn't start playing til he was 16 and he is starting in the NBA, leading the league in shooting percentage and blocks per minute and you're saying he could never ever do something as well as the sainted, blessed KMart? How was KMart as a perimeter defender his sophomore year at Cincinnati?</p>

All I was saying by posting the video is that Kidd should work with Sean to get the timing down, if you notice the Nets do not have that same energy as when Martin was here, look at Kidd in a couple of the videos..he's jumping up and down and excited this team needs to get back to that, Frank needs to let these guys loose all these sets get on my nerves</p>

I saw with my own two eyes what KMart did, and it's unlikely Williams will be that kind of defender.</p>

KMart wasn't a great shotblocker, a top flight rebounder or a scorer, but he was an elite defender - especially in the fourth quarter.</p>

Maybe Williams will be a better overall player, but I doubt he will ever play the kind of man defense that changes games like Kmart did.</p>

I'm tired of hearin bout K-Mart.. Bottom Line he's in Denver n not commin back and I would take Sean Williams over him anyday. The only thing I like about K-Mart that Sean doesn't have is that swagger.. If Sean can get that cocky swagger goin like he knows hes gonna teabag someone on a dunk n then send his ass to the stands on the other end of the court he will be AMAZING. At the moment he looks kinda shy like he doesnt wanna make a mistake. He has to stop worrying about doing wrong and thik of how to do right. Get this kid talkin shit n taunting n he'll be the top rookie period.</p>
 
Sometimes I think I see moments of Sean's personality. While knowing its just lip reading at best, I think he had something to say against KG, and Shaq (while at the free-throw line after a bogus call) in their respective games.</p>
 
The way he presents himself and talks, I doubt we will ever see him with as much energy as Kenyon after making a big play but alley oops and blocks speak volumes.</p>

Sean Williams will probably never play MAN defense like K-Mart did, but it doesn't mean he won't provide HELP defense that equals or even surpasses K-Mart's contribution.</p>
 
I cant imagine anyone EVER playing with the amount of intensity that K-Mart did ever again. Seriously the guy probably deserved a technical foul after 90% of his dunks.</p>

This thread is about comparing Williams to Kmart.</p>

Sure help defenders can help you win in the NBA. The Spurs have one of the best ones ever and they are pretty good. The Pistons had two and that was enough to get them a title.</p>

But the Nets' best player is Jason Kidd, and Williams is too little, too late to take advantage of that.</p>

Still, whoever the Nets build around next has a nice piece to work with.</p>

Perhaps this is sacrilege, but I don't think KMart was a flat out stopper. He was real good man to man, don't get me wrong, but didn't really have the size to play the best PFs (Duncan) or the speed to tackle the Kobes and Pierces of the world. I don't remember the Nets using Martin a lot on the opponents star SG/SF, that was mostly Kittles, Kidd, or RJ.</p>

And if you want to ignore a guy who was a major part of Nets history, fine. That's your issue.</p>

In reality, he was a shutdown defensive player and he got better as the game went on.</p>

Not replacing him was the biggest mistake of the Thorn era. (As has been stated more than once in this thread, he wasn't irreplacable.)</p>

The Nets never found anyone to fill his role half as well as he did, and they have not been championship material since.</p>

The point of this thread is for anyone watching the vids to just look at how the team just got out an ran...Kidd RJ and Kenyon, Frank call a set almost all the time...Kidd and RJ want to run like they did before with SWAT it gives Kidd something he hasn't had since Kmart</p>

and the scary part about sean is that he can jump just as high as kmart. I see this kids head almost hitting the damn rim! WTF and he's 6-8, 230, 4% body fat! Thats nuts because if this freak gets better overall he could be close to unstoppable!</p>

You make some good points in reference to how K-Mart played free agency. He might have said he loved playing with Kidd, but he certainly wasn't willing to take a pay cut to do so.</p>

Using All-Defensive teams to judge how good players are defensively is kind of silly. Kidd wins it every year, and we've all seen quick guards blow by him on a night-by-night basis. Plus, for forwards, it's much harder to get recognition if you're not racking up statistics - if Marion wasn't such a ridiculous rebounder, he probably wouldn't be winning it either.</p>

But even beyond man defense, the most important thing that Martin brought to the team was intensity. That's why people like cpaw and myself pine for K-Mart and trash Vince - because even though Vince is a better player who, in all likelyhood, gives us a better chance to win, K-Mart gave a shit, and Vince doesn't. That's why it's been so hard to trade one in for the other.</p>

I don't, nor ever have, pined for Kenyon on the Nets since the day of the trade. As for Vince, my comments about him revolve around one central point, he isn't as good as some of his fans think he is.</p>
