Job Offer - Does Anyone Know About These Cities

Denver, CO is beautiful. Mix of young/middle-aged/old. Mix of entertainment in city/outdoor stuff.
 
Denver has been near the top of my list since the beginning. I looked at a list today and did a little reading on Atlanta, which the more I think about I think would be okay. I used to think of it with a little more disdain, but I think it would work. Well, most places would compared to North Dakota or Alabama.

Cities I'd think were a "challenge" or at least wouldn't hate: Denver, St. Paul, Madison, Arlington, Baton Rouge, Atlanta. They are all big enough I could have fun I think (and with Madison there's the college in town).

Compared to Santa Fe (just too small, otherwise cool), Salt Lake City, Charleston (WV), Springfield (IL), Little Rock, or Bismarck.

Hopefully it works out. They seem to like me, as they flew me out to interview, put me up, sent me an Ipod (all totaling about $1,000 before I've worked for them). What can I say, being courted like I'm rushing a fraternity again is fun.
 
Meh, Denver isn't much to write home about. I'd hate this place if I were single. There isn't much going on at night. People are too tired from hiking and skiing all day.

It might be because I didn't go away for college, but I think I would hate that. I've had the same group of friends for such a long time, I'd hate to lose them all. Plus I know I would also hate trying to make new ones.
 
Just in case anyone wanted to know, I got placed in Denver. Will be working about two blocks from the Capitol Building. Now time to find a place to live, I start in about two weeks. If you're from around there or have friends who can advise me, let me know. I don't really know the area other than from what I've read.

Wasn't Madison voted the most livable city in the country a few years ago?
 
If you can get a good job in Sante Fe it is a pretty cool place. It is one of those places known to be pretty cool, but with not many good jobs, so if you can get one, jump on it.
 
Denver would be awesome. I'd imagine $65k a year is pretty small time there though, its good for having a good time but you won't be ballin'.

True, it won't be like if I was living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana or something. But it'll still be pretty darn good I think for a 23 year old in his first real full-time professional job.

I listed Denver, Madison and St. Paul (in no particular order) as my top preferences. It should be good. I think I'll like the weather, I'm close to the corporate HQ, and I'll be working directly for a company partner. Good chance that if I do well they could ship me out to somewhere else in another year or two.

That's a little concerning, considering I am single. But in a area of over 2 million people, I think I can do okay. And having the option to go skiing is nicer than say...if you're in North Dakota.

Denver was a top-tier choice and I think it'll probably be for the best.
 
Congrats!

Of your top-3 choices, I would have went for St. Paul. But that's just my preference. I just liked Minneapolis a lot better than Denver.

Well I've never been to the Twin Cities, so I don't know what it'd be like. I really didn't get to choose. In fact the HR Rep. sounded annoyed on the phone, like it was a great favor to take my preferences into consideration with placing me.

I have suspicions that if I stay with the company more than a couple of years I'll get moved again. But to be honest, for career progression, Denver is best. I'm near the Corporate HQ and working directly for one of the partners, which has to be a good sign. I'm excited.
 
Scottsdale would be my first choice. I'd be weary about Arlington. 65k there is like 30k in Oregon.

Yeah, I don't think they were hiring for either Scottsdale or Arlington though. After doing research I think I was looking at a possibility of Denver, Santa Fe, St. Paul, Bismarck, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Little Rock, Charleston (WV), and Montgomery.

I don't even think those locations were on the table.

But as I said, if I go there and work hard I suspect I could end up moving again somewhere else soon. Exciting. Time to work it and become a manager. Start pulling in the $$$.
 
i noticed your already going to denver but id just thought id throw somethin out just incase you get moved in 2-3 years or whatever from promotions. St. paul is really nice especially spring/summer and the night life is pretty decent its a little bit different than portland. only thing that sucks is that it snows from mid fall to early/late spring constantly and i dont know how much you like snow but you better love it if you live there lol

Yeah, St. Paul and Madison were in my first "tier", which is how I rated the locations. I think that St. Paul is somewhere I could get transferred to. I do think that Denver is a good climate though, and again being close to HQ and working for a partner can only help my career progression.

Oh well, that's the way the cookie crumbled. Denver is nothing to sneeze at. Good snowboarding, all the major sports. Cute girls. I'll keep myself occupied.
