Trying to figure it out right now, actually. I just finished up what is hopefully my last w-2 job as I move to launch a start up in the coming months. Here's to being your own boss!![]()
As someone that lives this life ... it's quite interesting the job people think we have, vs. the job we actually have. As a guy at a small market station, my job is different from even your friends as I'm out at games/events a few times a week with the camera on my shoulder. I use to get surprised at how many people would comment that "don't you have someone to do the shooting for you?" as I think they just assumed I kicked my feet up on a desk and watched sports all night, never leaving the newsroom. I don't have kids but know quite a few that got out of the biz because it's a 2-11 type of shift, missing out on birthdays and games and a lot of that life type stuff.I went to high school with a guy who became a long time local sports newscaster. I always thought he had it cushy but it was essentially a "swing shift" schedule with a lot of prep time up front. He had to put in a lot of hours and he missed a lot of time with his kids when they were growing up. As he was pretty well known, it also messed with his privacy quite a bit. As this place proves, everyone has an opinion and everyone is eager to share it. Eventually he got tired of it and got into the dry cleaning business. There's definitely easier ways to make a living......
If you can find a gig as a weatherperson, that to me is the easiest job in the news business. Just look up the forecasts on the internet and tell people what you expect to see the following day, plus it's a job where most people expect you to be wrong. Now being a Meteorologist takes away some of the carefree nature of the job.I actually love what I do for work.
But I’m sitting here on paid leave watching the news imagining how people can have such an easy job. Like telling people what the traffic cameras say twice an hour for about 3 hours a day.

'Pirate Radio' sets sail in a sea of sex, drugs and rock n' rollThe Commonwealth Timeshttps://commonwealthtimes.orgI guess in addition to a job being easy, I'd want it to involve lots of sex, drugs, and rock&roll.
So: college student.

I guess my vision of a global moderator is completely wrong. I thought that stuff you listed just naturally comes with the territory.
