So where does everybody work?

I got hired today at Starbucks. The manager and I really hit it off. I came in to drop off my application and I ended up talking to her for about an hour. I'm really hoping I can keep this job through college.

Minimum wage is going up in California, if they do adjust how much I'll be getting paid to fit the minimum wage requirement ($7.50) I'll be making $7.90. If that's the case, based on tips, my hourly average would be about $9.30.

Kitchen hand at the moment, its a crappy job, I'm probally going to quit soon though, because the only reason I took on the job in the first place was because I was going to do a Chef Apprenticeship, and they say its best to start out at the bottom, however I've decided against it.

I'm looking at going back to School this year to do Graphic Design, but if not that, then I'd like to study to become a Personal Trainer or join the Police force. I really enjoy those kind of jobs where you're helping people out, helping them better themselves.

From time to time I work as kind of a "floor caretaker", meaning that I clean carpets, oil wooden floors and stuff like that. Great pay.

Right now I'm an assistant manager for a sub shop in a suburb of Madison, and of course I've got to say that school is like a second job.

Ah, sandwich maker. I did that for 6 months. I worked in a deli, I love sandwiches. I could eat one every day.

Thats the good thing about working in a restaraunt, all the free food!

I did some "outside" work for a while before I left to Europe. In a few years after college I'll be a Psychologist.

My moms is a Personal Trainer, and it looks pretty cool, especially if you love working out.

I work at Carvel. It's an Ice Cream Parlor and I get paid way too low.

Do you get free ice cream? Cuz then it makes up for the low pay.

I currently don't work since im a full-time college student and the parents don't want me working during school. Two summers ago, I worked for one of the top law firms in Houston and last summer I worked at a christian summer camp as a counselor and had a blast.

I just have to decide what I want to do this summer, make oodles of money at the lawfirm or corporation, or making hardly any money but having a blast hanging out with kids.

Yea of course I get free Ice-cream but im not really a huge ice-cream lover.

Same here. But during the summer I was working at Taco Bell in a food court. It was decent but I doubt I'll go back there for a job.

When im old enough, i want my job to be at Sports Authority. Then when i go to college i either want a degree in Graphic Design because i like it and i feel i can become better and make a job out of it, or Kineseology,(Sp?)that way i can become a sports trainer. Im still young though, but thats just my basic plan. Also i want to go to UCLA, but then i need better grades, i just wanna be close enough that i can visit when i want to, but far enough away that they cant visit when they want to.

AF ain't you in high school? lol don't front foo.

But yea, I'll have a job soon either at Game Crazy or Walgreens.

I'm probably pick Walgreens because it's much closer to my house so I don't gotta go as far and the pay is even.

Work at a theatre, at the concession stand. It's a ridicuously easy job, and I honestly don't complain about the money (I make 7.25 for now, will make 7.45 starting on my birthday in January), cause I'd rather be working there than a factory.

i work for a distrbutor of budweiser...oh yea free beer

I am the starting SG for the Lakers.

Haha, I don't have a job. I'm 14.

Well I worked at a place called Imagenet full-time which was sweet but I got fired. So now I have decided to go to college and have picked up a part-time job at Steve and Barry's University Sportswear. It's a pretty cool store/company if you've never heard of it. My bosses are all like 24-28 too and cool as ****.

You obviously don't have one. Its all college gear and everything in the store is like under $7.88. Its a great store to get a cheap college t-shirt.

Yeah, that place is awsome. Go in there an you can buy so much stuff

You obviously dont know that Steve and Barrys is the only place they sell Marburys clothing line and brand shoes.

nevermind...this isn't the off topic thread...

Im being serious, other people would be all pissed, but hunter says "Good Call!"

I work at Longs, which is a big drug store chain that I believe is only around in California and Hawaii (maybe some other west coast states). It has its positives and negatives. I work the weekends with most of the other 16-21 year olds and all the people are really cool, other than that the job is pretty terrible. I make $7.50 an hour, work 9 hour days (technically 8 since 1 hour is lunch), we got a new head manager a couple months ago who basically ****** everything up in the whole store because hes trying to change the store to operate like the one he came from but our store is the largest in the district (probably one of the biggest in the Bay Area) so everything is just messed up. Before this guy moved to our Longs I loved the job but now the only thing keeping me there is the co-workers because they're all really cool and I've grown pretty close to them. This new manager has even made most of the assistant managers into douches as well since they now feel a bunch more pressure which they pas on to us because ultimately their job is in our hands (and if you know the people who worked at Longs you know thats a shitty position to be in).

I've actually been thinking about quitting lately because several people have quit or are in the process of quitting, one of my friends may be fired soon and if he is I'll probably leave shortly after, once I get another job lined up of course. Also, after volunteering to work the day after Thanksgiving since I was a newb, they go ahead and schedule me to work on the 23rd of December, Christmas Eve, and Christmas and they didn't ask or even warn me. Now I have to work today, New Years Eve, and tomorrow, New Years Day (and I worked yesterday). Most people just tell me its because I'm new, even though several other newbs don't work those hours (because they are girls I assume) but this is way fucking overboard, and I'm only sixteen years old working 30 hours a week the last 2 or 3 weeks. I don't mean to sound like a pompous ass but I think I've kind of payed my dues as far as getting the shittiest days and hours to work. Its one thing to make me work Christmas because I'm new, I accept that, but Christmas, Christmas Eve, the day AFTER Thanksgiving (everyone else wanted to work Thanksgiving day for the extra money and the store closed at 3), New Years Eve, New Years Day, and a every Saturday and Sunday for 9 fucking hours? Thats nuts.

End Rant.

Thats the job I was trying to get before and maybe the one I go for next. I was talking to this guy I kind of know at the movie theater a few months ago about how he liked the job, he said it was really easy and laid back, plus you get to see a bunch of movies, and I'm a semi-large movie buff. I may talk to him again soon about his hours and how he likes the managers and co-workers.
