Gotta agree about Steve Vai, however, I'm a big John Petrucci fan myself.</p>

Satriani was a guitar teacher. People came to him asking to teach them rifts. So he got good at those.</p>

I don't truly find his playing to be all that innovative, though he's polished at what sounds like a mix of those copied rifts.</p>

Now, Steve Morse is just mindblowing and does the same kind of guitar out front kind of instrumentals. He outright wails, invents his own rifts, and mocks the rest.</p>
