“He's the best big in Europe,” one scout in Europe told Beyond the Beat.

“He’s equipped not just with his physical build, but his efficiency, skills and disposition. He does everything you want in a big over here. Plus, he can play both the 4 and 5, but will be a solid 5 in the NBA.”

“He really knows how to get position, he sets up deep, and then scores over both shoulders. And he is deceptively quick when pivoting and spinning off his man. He's a beast,” the scout continued.

“Freeland is quick and mobile for his size over here. Defending those athletic and perimeter-based power forwards might be tough, but that’s why he’d be good fit at center.

"Obviously, the NBA is a different style but he's still a big-time player.”

Portland may be keeping an eye on Freeland from afar, but five years after drafting and stashing him overseas they find themselves in two positions at once while looking for a big man:

Waiting or watching Freeland walk away.

does anyone have any good news??? anyone???

PA might be selling the team?

Nate continues to only sign 1 year contracts?

We have 3 times the GM power as most teams

We not only have a plan, but we have B and C contingencies

Kinda hard to have any kind of good news considering how incompetent this management is.

Larry Miller
Bert Kolde
Paul Allen

It's a fucking disaster.

How much can we offer him next year? After a certain number of years doesn't the designated first round salary slot expire? Would signing a Carl Landry or Chuckie Hayes hurt our chances more? The ideal situaion of course would be a 3 man rotation of Freeland ,LMA and Oden at the 4-5.

how was this guy not brought over this year?

He signed a long-term deal with Unicaja Malaga but can be bought out -- $2m after this season.

But he also made it clear he doesn't want to "warm benches" in the NBA when he comes over.

You mean the year that almost wasn't? Why would a Euro sign this year when they were not sure there would be a season?

It would (have?) been great to get him over here this season. You can almost bet that he wouldn't be warming the bench, especially if he's as good as they're claiming.

he is the shelf stocker
a real rim rocking shocking healthy ball blocking perimeter stealth stalker
but the NBA is his wealth blocker

I'd love to see Freeland come over. He looks like the hustle guy/banger that we need.

no, nothing dirty, i just like large men who throw their sweaty bodies into one another and get really physical with each other

As I understand it, they can go above his salary slot to acquire him - but only if they are under the cap or have the full MLE available. Whether those rules will get tweaked in the final draft is anybody's guess.

if it was as simple as bringin him over...we would. There's more to it unfortunately

GREAT Post. Thanks.

It's clear Freeland is the answer to replacing Camby next year. He looks good next to LMA, great prospective.

Keep in mind that is an old pic. LMA is much bigger now. But Freeland looks to be bigger also.

It seems like forever since we drafted him.

He's younger than I thought -- only 11 months older than Greg Oden and lightyears ahead of Oden in terms of fundamentals.

damn hes actually pretty quick on his feet....and has a nice jumper...

bring the stock boy over!

Wish he would come over. I know he is worried about riding the bench, but he's likely our third best big if he comes.

i dont know man, i think he might get some burn ahead of camby sooner than later
