Mark Woods: Reports in Spain saying Joel Freeland to miss tournament in Sheffield to fly to Portland for medical before signing with Trailblazers

(That's all I got but thought worthy of a thread)

I wonder if this is supposed to mean Victor Claver? Funny cause Spain played Great Britain the night before Claver flew here? Spain has nothing to do with Freeland

Interesting. Wish I had an article to link, but it was a tweet. Mark Woods twitter page:

I'm not saying you are wrong, I am saying he is wrong. Freeland and Spain have nothing to do with each other, and with Claver flying over yesterday, I think he just messed up the name

Whatever that means...

I get what you were saying. Very possible. We will probably find out officially within half a day if true, this is the world of news today.

Sidenote: NBA media frustrated with twitter because so many fake accounts and false info being thrown out. Hollinger even posted some bogus news because of a hacked twitter account and then tweeted apology and that he never thought he would fall for that.

I hope you are right...he is right

it wasn't hacked, it was just that Hollinger didn't verify sources. ESPNSteinLine =/= ESPNStienLine.

looks like he's comin over, any guesses guys as to what type of contarct he gets? 3 yrs 9 mil?

If he'd take our "room exception", that'd be great. 3/8.073M

Would it really have been any trouble for these to have begun AFTER the July 11 NBA free agency deadline?

1. Orlando Summer League games
2. US Select Team practices
3. Olympic team "friendly" exhibition games

Looks like Olshey is trying to fill up the roster with cheepies.

given that we missed out on Hibbert that is the way to go IMO, leave capspace to possibly facilitate a lopsided trade later on

Yup. Cheap and young.

There's that and then there's the signal that the Blazers are going to go young and do the rebuild thing. Whatever that means for Nicolas, who will coach and ultimately how this affects LaMarcus remains to be seen.

Barring some miracle trade(s), I'm not happy for all the losing we're probably about to endure, but I am happy that Olshey doesn't seem afraid to do things in a way that have a chance for success in the long run.

Done.

@iwhittell: Per reports in Spain, Joel Freeland has agreed 3-year, $9 million deal to play with Blazers next season.

Smart for Olshey to start signing stuff soon and then leave the Batum door open. Claver announcement could be real soon.

LOL this is first time a guess of mine has been right on a contarct, throw enuf darts and you will finally hit one!

If they set it up with max raises, that's a cap hit of $2,870,813 for this year. Taking us to $16,809,493 left in cap space (including Nic's 5.388M hold)

3 million/year seems like a good deal. On the other hand we've gone waaaaay over our limit on whiteys.

Seems like it would have to be Freeland and not Claver like I originally thought because Claver is still on his rookie contract

If you consider Claver "white" (not sure if we do), and they sign him and resign Joel, the team would be 1/3 white. (Joel, Joel, Claver, Babbitt and Leonard)

They'd be the Boston Celtics of the 80's, minus the nice talent at the top.
