i cant believe more people arent happy about this....has anybody been watching kurt thomas? hes terrible. and we are getting killed on the boards every night. adds toughness and a good locker room guy. great pick up for the vet minimum

Why would you be shocked? You've been posting here long enough to be aware of the people posting here.... Just sayin'.

It's the kind of move that doesn't do anything to move the needle competitively, but it has a nice human interest angle to it ... so I wouldn't say I'm unhappy about it, but happy? No, not really.

For me all it means is a lower draft pick. Do I think Joel will help? Maybe? Pre knee injury Joel would have for sure, but either way, he's not going to help enough for it to matter, and what help he does give us probably just moves us down in the draft. Fell good stary, sure, but someday before I die I'd like to see another championship banner raised in the Rose Garden

I like it. No, it ain't earth-shattering. But:
- It's insurance if Camby gets injured.
- It makes it that much easier to play Batum at SG, because Gerald can get all his minutes at SF.
- It's nice to add a good locker room guy.

I'd prefer a trade for Dwight Howard, but I'll settle.

AND, he's been resting for a year virtually. If he's got anything left in the tank you know he'll put it on the line.

You think that a player that the Blazers might get at around the number 14 spot is going to make a significant difference in the team's future? I really can't see them falling much farther than that unless they just start playing to lose, and that's not going to happen. Also, did you factor into your opinion the idea that Joel may be being signed in order to make Camby available for a deadline deal? I think there's a much better chance of retooling the roster through trades than by playing draft roulette.

It's a nice move. The team's biggest needs are PG and backup C. The biggest problem for most posters here is they only remember the Joel that played last season after coming back soon (perhaps too soon?) from knee surgery. He has had time to heal now. If he is in shape I think we'll see him moving much better than he did last season. All we need is a PG now...

Joel Przybilla Returning to Portland!

Did you guys hear about this?

Re: Joel Przybilla Returning to Portland!

Tell me something important.

Re: Joel Przybilla Returning to Portland!

Guess what?! His first home game back is against MIAMI! RG's gonna be rockin.

Re: Joel Przybilla Returning to Portland!

Bet you the first time 'Bron 'Bron or Wade comes down the lane.......JP will lay the wood on those fools!

Re: Joel Przybilla Returning to Portland!

We just need to convince the other Joel to come over.

Like Delonte West to 'Bron 'Bron's mom!

I'm glad to hear this. This team needs rebounding, and that is with a healthy Camby. Joel isn't going to be the difference, but if the Blazers get it together, he adds another vet presence that can play a role.

Right or wrong moves, hard to argue that the Blazers won't be able to make moves without a GM.

I hate to be positive, because the team gives me little hope for the rest of the year. But I have a glimmer of hope that Joel will just be a presence in the locker room. There are enough guys still with this team that played in Portland with Joel and know Joel's place with the team. He was a great teammate, always has his mates' back, won't take shit from the other team, and certainly won't allow divisive attitudes in the locker room. To me, this team really needs a presence like that. I really don't think we have it. So Joel, I welcome you back! Fuck the haters (and the message board rejects at S2).

Actually, Aldridge and Batum are the only players who played with Joel before he got hurt. Everyone else is new.

lets see "JoeL picked Portland", should I be thrilled or bummed? the latter since it tells me the type of "bold moves" mgmt is capable of

LA said the time for talk is over... and now Joel joins... as LA's skull-crusher in the locker room? I think so! :ghoti:

Joel was on our team last season. So you can add Wes and Camby to the list. And Armon and Babbitt, kind of. And with Greg still here, technically, that's half the team.

Other than Crawford, the guys that matter.... Pretty much all have played with Joel. And most of the coaching staff... There's enough there.... Not just the two guys you mentioned.

Per Jason Quick: Why would Blazers waive Armon Johnson instead of the injured Greg Oden? If Johnson is picked up by another team, he comes off Blazers' books

Re: Joel Przybilla Returning to Portland!

Or me to yours!

Honestly dude? It would be funny... It really would be. My mom was killed at 27 by drunk teenage drivers in OC - I was 3 at the time, so I don't have many memories. You can still find the article by surfing the OLive archives. I know I can give it, and I usually can take it back. But this isn't very cool. I know you may not have seen my prior mention of this, so I won't hold a grudge.

I appreciate the attempt at humor. But poor form, man. So fuck you.

I'm happy about it. No, I don't think it's a championship move. But it is low risk, Kurt Thomas has not worked as back up center, if Joel has anything he'll be an improvement, if not there is little lost. He likes the city & he's a good locker room presence. Fans like him. Not a high impact move but surely not a bad one. Unless you think by definition everything the Blazers do is bad.

I hope it means we have a trade lined up. But it's probably just insurance. Welcome home, Joel.

Is this real?
