Josh Smith anyone?

I was hoping for some insane trade like Smith/Teague/Johnson to us for Miller/Camby/ filler. Would make our payroll ungodly but would also put out an insane roster. Oh well Good for orlando.

The Smith rumors are still out there. If we could swing a trade for Johnson/Smith by sending Camby/Miller/Matthews, the Hawks would cut Miller before the deadline and maybe we could pick him up again in a couple months.

Miller
Johnson
Wallace
Smith
Aldridge

Talk about your running team.

Is Portland working the phones, or working on their explaination of how they couldn't get anything done.....NOT because PA is too attached to our role players of course

If we amnesty Roy then I am all for this. I think Johnson would probably enjoy playing with a real PG (like when he had Nash) after trying to do it on his own for a while. And our frontcourt D would be vicious (but a little size challenged), imagine if Oden comes back though! I'd like to have a guy like Turiaf off the bench.

Our bench would include: Oden (if healthy I'd think he starts and Smith becomes a super-sub), Batum, A-Johnson, E-Williams, C-Johnson? That could use a little help for sure. But I guess Batum would gobble up the 2-3 minutes and J-Smith the 3-4 (if Oden ever gets healthy). With Johnson on the team Batum may be able to play next to him at 2. It'd be real nice if the Hawks waived both Miller and Camby and we could sign them for minimums (I wonder if they would be amicable).

I'm just thinking this is exactly the kind of "swing for the fences" deal that Paul is looking for. Something that would definitely put us in contention, especially if we could get Miller back after he's waived.

I think it's going to be:
J. Smith to Orlando, R. Anderson to Atlanta, A. Miller to Atlanta, and J. Nelson to Portland and Atl gets our #21 pick.

How do you have Miller in our starting lineup if he's included in the deal for Johnson/Smith? Or did you mean to have Mills as our starting PG? :smiley-puke:

The assumption is that Miller would be waived before his contract becomes guaranteed on the 29th of this month. Off the top of my head I think the the waiting period is 2 months to re-sign a player that you just traded, so he could be back on the Blazers as soon as August 29th before the regular season started*.

*If he wanted to return AND there actually is a regular season next year.

Yeah, just realized that. Deleted my stupid post.

Supposedly ATL is trying to get the #2 from Minny for Smith.

Chris Mannix said on Twitter that Atlanta is looking to deal Smith. I'd love to see him in a Trail Blazer uni!!!!

If Aldridge is willing to play center long-term, I'd love Josh Smith on the team. It all depends on what they're looking for. My guess is they'd want Batum, and I probably wouldn't do that.

They want to cut payroll they wouldn't want to pay to keep Batum. Id trade Wallace and a pick for him. Keeps them competitive for this year with an expiring essentially. LA would be fine at center as long as you dont call him a center

I still think you try to grab Joe Johnson from them. I know he's grossly overpaid, but I don't think we could really get anyone better this offseason with that cap space and maybe a new coach (not Nate) would do wonders for this team next season.

I think Atlanta would go for this because they get a young guy in Batum and they clear 30 million off their cap. If you look at hteir roster, it's mostly 1 year deals. They would be huge players in free agency this summer.

We end up with a decent core around Aldridge. We'd just need a point guard this summer (Miller maybe?)

Crawford/Smith
Johnson/Williams
Matthews/Babbitt
Smith/rhino
Aldridge/Prz

GROSS.

Not a fan of either Smith or Johnson. Both? Kill me now.

I dont think they are interested in Batum. They want to get rid of smith because of his contract but if they get Batum they will have to pay him Smith type money in the off season.

Batum is 4 or 5 years younger and much more versatile than Smith. Smith is actually a power forward in a small forwards body. I'm just thinking that Smith and Johnson with Aldridge would be a formidable core. We'd just need a decent point guard to solidify things.

Finally reports of teams looking to dump salary. Good opportunity to pick quality player for teams not afraid to to spend money.

Batums only 3 years younger. I still cant see them taking on Batum, I guess if we took on Johnson but Johnson is 30 and 1 injury away from crippling us for years to come financially and If we were to take on Johnsons contract id demand Horford

If you can somehow turn batum into josh smith you do it in a heartbeat and never look back.
