Good God. How did the IOC choose Sochi in the 1st place? I wonder how Salzburg, Austria and Pyeongchang, South Korea feel about losing to these jackasses.

Sochi won the bid in 2007. So in 7 years they can't provide toilets that flush toilet paper, non-dangerous face washing tap water, ski lifts that work longer than half a day, doors with doorknobs that stay on, hotels with lobby's that are finished, rooms for people who had booked rooms half a year ago, etc...??? I mean, why not just hold the winter Olympics in downtown Detroit with five days notice?

I bet this is Russia's grand plan. Give the athletes of every other country shit accommodations and hope it effects their performance.

If this is their level of ineptitude I wouldn't even feel safe being there. Really hope nothing bad happens.

European hotels are a step down but these athlete accommodations are just rooms with (single) beds. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a desk or table or the slightest bit of decoration. The size of the rooms suggests they might've originally had bigger plans for them (kitchenettes, dining tables, sofas?) that were scrapped.

According to the VICE video, the 40m^2 rooms are a vanity project. They built the biggest rooms for athletes but didn't partition them or put any furniture or fixtures in them. I guess it's a way of saying they had the biggest without actually putting in the investment to make them comfortable or convenient. I don't know what the post-games plans are for them--maybe they're waiting to convert them later?
