Napoli himself was shocked and amazed he got that pitch. Hence the idiot comment afterwards. He figured he would get something nasty and strike out again.

...I've seen a few pitchers shaking off McCann, and it cost them. It was ultimately Tanaka's dicision on which pitch to throw and why he wanted to throw a FB in that situation is beyond me...like you said, he made Napoli look very bad earlier on at least 2 ocassions with the splitter which is the pitch he should have thrown.
...I suppose McCann could have called time out, got an interpreter, and told Tanaka in Japanese, "Throw the fucking splitter or I'll kick your ass".

Tanaka threw a DUMB pitch & the offense sucked. I watched the game too. And if you bothered reading the other responses in this thread I am not the ONLY one who thinks Girardi should have walked Napoli in favor of a 125 mother fucking hitter. A practice that has been used throughout baseball for over a century. Why this simple part of the game is so difficult for you two to grasp is a mystery & I'm sure not just to me.
