Read it and weep.

Why bother? Facts will never get in the way of Mixum's parade of negative BS.

If we were healthy, I think our bench would be pretty damn good. Camby and Matthews coming off the bench would be tremendous.

The bench is definitely playing better the past couple of weeks and I think as Joel gets back into shape it will get even better. As I said in a post yesterday, if Roy could get back to where he could play 15 to 20 minutes in a 6th man role, the bench would be really solid.

I don't expect to see Roy play again this year. Otherwise, I'm with you.

A big part of our improved bench play is simply the stability in our lineup since Roy has been forced to sit. Chemistry is built through stability. It's not that we're better off without Roy, but the roles are clearer for the team. It's easier to contribute if you know night in and night out what's expected from you.

Glad to see we aren't last, but would love to see Bayless and Juwan on there.

^ Add Marty to that list as well.

Yeah, I think if anyone could have forseen that our injury problems would equal or exceed last season's, we wouldn't have been so quick to cull the roster.

The Blazers do not have a good bench. Most nights, it is a downright liability. Mocking Mixum won't make it any better.

Mixum asked to name a worse bench than ours. Nik did the research and named 7.

But, wait! Didn't everyone run away when the mighty MIXUM challenged them?

Go Blazers

I actually don't mind Mixum; he makes me laugh (sometimes). I just thought it was funny after the big production he made about the Blazers having the worst bench in the league that Hollinger posted this article a mere week later. In all honesty though, our bench is pretty anemic, coming in at 22nd on the list.

Trolls don't let things like facts get in the way of a good baiting episode.

Anybody else notice how he hasn't been around much since we started playing good ball?

So Mixum said we have the worst bench, and Hollinger says as of this week we're only 8th worst, and this is a great victory over Mixum? I'd say it validates him more than it disproves him.

The player who is realistically expected to return is Przybilla. I thought he was back a month ago. He'll create several extra wins, but he'll be invisible in Hollinger's purely statistical approach toward backups, since he'll just take some of Camby's rebounds. He changes the character of the game into a bullying, challenging, in your face contest, which Hollinger can't measure.

It's funny that the bench isn't the 'worst' in the league, despite having 2 of it's charter members (Wesley and Camby) being starters and another (Joel) not playing much/at all.

That those 3 players aren't considered bench anymore and they're still not the worst bench, speaks well of the bench.

Wow Miami's backups are trashy however, they're defensive-oriented at least. Anthony should play Howard's minutes.

I know Joel Anthony, Dampier, and Chalmers are good defenders. James Jones has only 12 per, but on only 12% usg rate which is very valuable. And he takes the most charges here.

We caused that.

Utah 11.11 ...they lost Matthews
Golden State 10.96
New Jersey 10.50 ...Outlaw starts, how good is their bench
Minnesota 10.49 ...Webster
L.A. Clippers 10.46 ...they lost Blake
Miami 10.30
New Orleans 10.14 ...they replaced Bayless with Jarrett Jack

It is interesting but because most of the players on the bench do not have a lot of experience, I can only expect them to improve as the season goes on. I have already seen a lot of improvement, and often I notice, it comes as the expense of a game here or there to learn. For instance the other night against Dallas, that last play of the game, many of the guys out on the floor looked like they had no idea what they were doing. A night later and a shootaround later, those tight plays at the end of the game looked much better, spacing was better, execution was better. That shows they are picking up on their mistakes, and learning from the coaches.

A lot of these guys on the bench still need to find their swagger in the nba. When they do, they will be much better.

I also think this bench unit could be hugely upgraded by making one move. Getting a backup PF that is decent. Don't get me wrong about Dante, I love how hard he works, and how he doesn't complain how he is outmanned every night at that position. But he is. I would like to get a PF 6'10"+ with some meat to fight in the key to go with this group and set screens for them, and I think it would help a ton. Joel is going to help in this area when he actually starts getting back into game shape. Right now you can tell he isn't quite right yet.
