Just for shits & giggles....

Not taking sides but off the top of my head I can think of a few catchers around the league that IMO I'd take over Martin.

Don't know the numbers off hand but aside from Posey, I'd say the Kid in Atlanta I think his name is Gattis. Mesoraco of the Reds, Molina of the Cards, Lucroy of the Brewers, Gomes of the Indians & though he's hurt even Wieters of the Orioles. But like I said, JMO.

Of course I'm aware there are catchers with better numbers than Martin as we speak.
I don't want to come off sounding like I think Martin is the best thing since slice bread.
In the course of the thread, I felt the need to try and put Martin's offense(CAREER-WISE) as well as his current performance into perspective.
I said he has been, and is a good offensive catcher, and yes, I also said he has been exceptional (there goes that word again lol).

He began his career in 2006, and if you read my related post, I welcome a list of catchers who have been better offensively DURING THAT TIME FRAME.
Of course if those catchers you listed do it for 8 or so more seasons the answer will be obvious.
But how many during the span of 2006-2014 have been better? That's all I was saying.
I could be proven wrong if you want to use "exceptional", but he certainly has been a "good" offensive catcher imo.
Molina of the Cards and Posey could be on track to make the Hall of Fame....jeez.

psst...you can be "exceptional" and NOT be a Hall of Famer. lol

It's not complicated.

Thanks for the input.

Last exceptional offensive Yankee catcher was Jorge Posada, in 2003 & 2007.

...but, but, but, he doesn't count because, well, only catchers who played between "2006 and 2014" can be considered. :biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

^^^I did read it, I read it before I replied, and you are wrong...the catcher's spot has been a problem and it's been a problem for the last 3 years, including this year.

...here, would you like this year's numbers too? .247 .298 .397 .695

...Yanx catchers rank 17th in BA... and 22nd in OBP... I suppose you think that's not a problem, and good somehow?

Stop begging for help from the board...this is what I HAVE TO SAY.

Yankee catchers, as we speak - tied for 2nd in RBI.....in THEIR LEAGUE!
5th in both SLG% and OPS.

Oh...lookey here...Yankee catchers are currently 7th (out of 15) in BA, IN THEIR LEAGUE.....yep...they're a real disgrace.

Here's a classic ---> "RBIs are a team stat" <---- gee whiz, I wonder which genius said that.

I better check with "the board".... lmao....... please, take off that clown suit...
....and don't forget the floppy shoes. lmao

Fine with me....but, Ellsbury has had a very decent season.

One man doth not a Team Make.....

I'm a bit surprised, maybe not, you didn't even mention Mauer, who caught thru the 010 Season, won several batting titles, a MVP, and 3 gold gloves, from o6 on. Prior to Joe's conversion to 1st base, and DH, he took home more brass, than Mar-tan will in his career.....

I know what you're thinking, did he fire 6 shots or only 5? well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I really don't remember, but this is a 44 & it can blow your head clean off. So you have to ask yourself a question, "Do I feel lucky"? well do ya PUNK?

Fine. We have Posey, Molina and Mauer. 3 ALL-STAR types.
And I did notice your little back-hand insult about you maybe NOT being surprised that I didn't mention Mauer.
Look here Matt, I'm not trying to convince people that Martin has been one of the TOP catchers in baseball since 2006.... I have said Martin (imo) has been, and still is a GOOD offensive catcher and yes, he could be called an EXCEPTIONAL offensive catcher....

Sorry to break your heart but...Posey, (1st full season 2010) unfortunately, suffered a serious injury and is now a part time 1b, and surely is a much much better hitter than Martin..........Mauer clearly has been a great hitting catcher.
Molina yes of course a good offensive catcher.

Here is a comparison between Martin and Molina based on 162 game average including this year.
Trust me, the comparison doesn't get any better for Molina if you just use their seasonal averages.

Molina- HR 12, RBI 72, SB 5, BA .284, OBP .339, SLG% .402, OPS .741

Martin- HR 16, RBI 75, SB 13, BA .258, OBP .355, SLG% ..398, OPS .753

Glad to help you out Matt.

'59, don't try and get cute with me...you know darn well what I mean when I say "I'm not trying to convince people that Martin has been ONE of the top catchers in baseball". However, he has made the All-Star game 3 times and has been Rookie of the Year............but you know what--> Just for laughs and giggles I'm going to throw this at you.

Y. Molina , Martin- OFFENSIVE comparison from the start of their careers to 2014.

Based on 162 game average...and before you try and play your semantic games...it doesn't get better for Molina if we just use their seasonal career averages.

Molina- HR 12, RBI 72, SB 5, BA .284, OBP .339, SLG% .402, OPS .741

Martin- HR 16, RBI 75, SB 13, BA .258, OBP .355, SLG% ..398, OPS .753

Now go get a glass of water before you choke. lmao

lmaoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

How about another picture? You're in need of a smoke screen.

...how can anyone else know what you mean when you don't even know what you mean? You've been all over the place in this thread. Everyone else has been consistent and no one has even come close to agreeing with you.

Why thanks for 'helping me out' tho' I don't need the help. (now is that backhand sarcasm coming from you this time?). Mine wasn't sarcasm, rather the truth brother, we all make errors, now and then, or forget to post everything in our heads. Just giving you some lee-way, for error, since you Didn't mention Joe. I figured as much, you simply forgot about Mauer or weren't counting him in, since he's not currently catching. Now is that sarcasm, or simple room for error, call it breathing space, I never meant sarcasm, not now, not then. Sorry if you felt as much, that's merely who I am, and how I communicate.....

A very wise man once told me and a group of others: "Don't ever take this Life personal", the man speaking won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1963. LOL- I bet you weren't yet a twinkle, in your Daddy's eye then. (Don't take that as sarcasm), as with others, I'd of said, "you were still shitting in your diapers then"....
