Very nice although I hope you have plenty of .22 ammo, it's tough to find for some reason.

The gun currently on the top of my wish list is a Sako 30 06 with a decent Leopoldo scope for hunting. I got to shoot one at a range, light, smooth like butter, and was more accurate than anything I've ever shot. But the setup I was using was near 3k, so I doubt I'll be able to step into one anytime soon.

This is very similar to the one I used.

Watch out about keeping drugs and guns in the same house. The police are already harassing you with their gray car.

Nice sexy gun

It's a .22 caliber model and the fake silencer is to extend the barrel length so it's legal in California.

Here's the gun

Your post sent me down a rabbit hole, thinking about .22 calibers. I have a 10/22 that's basically stock. I have been wanting to upgrade, basically make it a better target shooter. Anyway, I found a nice green mountain barrel and over molded hogue stock combo for only about $150. Add in a little trigger work and I should be able to hit a quarter from 50m repeatedly.

Nice thing about .22's cheap to buy, set up and especially shoot(if you can find the ammo). Your mp5 in another 9mm is going to cost almost three times as much, and shooting it is Aldo going to cost 5 to 10 times as much.

Yeah that's why I got the .22 version. I have a couple AR-15 that shoot .223. I got a PTR-91 that unloads .308 rounds. Now that's an expensive load!

Want to see something fun, check out the tactical solutions Gatling gun. It just takes two 10/22's and puts them together with a crank for firing. Completely useless, but looks fun as hell. Blast through 100 rounds (2 X 50 round mags) in a few seconds. And it's totally legal without tax stamps even, although for you the ten round mags would apply I think, ruining it. Anyway, total setup including the guns would be less that $900.

Say what?!?! Like fully auto and able to register in California?

The MP5 is fun as hell to shoot, but you sure burn up the ammo.

Did you consider a Slide Fire stock for your AR? (Not as cool if you have CA compliant mags, though.)

[video=youtube;x0f7OCnrrpk]

I don't think they make a slide fire for the MP5-22. Again, not such a big deal with 10 rd. mags.

They do make one for the S&W M&P AR15/22 though. :)

Slide fire for a .22 seems like a waste. Throw that on something with a bit more power.

They're harder to master than the AR in the vid above, but the 22LR is a lot of fun....and a lot cheaper to shoot.

If you can find the ammo. 22lr is hard to come by.

That's awesome Mags! Love the MP5, H&K is the premier gun manufacturer in the world imo. And like others have said hopefully you can find some 22lr. Your best bet is probably online.

It very hard to find cheap 22LR. If you are willing to pay 2-4X the old prices (3-4 cents per round), you can buy any kind of 22 ammo you can think of, and some brands that you've never heard of.

If what we read about Mags here, I doubt that the cost of ammo is a big factor.

That's legal?!

It is approved by BATFE.

As far as finding ammo, try this link.

http://www.gunbot.net/ammo/rimfire/22lr/

You can sort by price per round, brand or store.

EDIT: If you are buying for a semi-auto, make sure the ammo you are buying is either high velocity or hyper velocity. "Standard" velocity or sub-sonic do not cycle well in a semi. The lower velocity ammo is more accurate, if you are buying for a non-semi.

Oldguy, what about for a ruger mark III pistol? And would it cycle better if I bought a LITE mark III since it would take less force to move the lightwight metal? I'm planning on picking one up just for plinking and target shooting. And I already have a bunch of ammo but most of it is the cheap federal bricks. A small amount of high velocity CCI.

Besides the HK VP9, I'm thinking about getting a Glock 20 in 10mm or a Glock 21 in 45 ACP. Having a tough time deciding between the two. Though I heard you can put a Glock 20 slide on a 21 lower and you'll have a Glock 20. But I'd rather just have both guns.

My buddy LOVES his MIII pistol. I like them a lot, but I chose this one, because it fits my hand much better than the Ruger.

Both can be a little finicky about ammo, and the Ruger maybe a little moreso. Before you buy, look at some vids on how to field strip and clean. MIII takes some getting used to....the Browning requires a tool to take it down. I'd recommend you pick them up side by side and make a choice.

Both have mags that are easy to load.

Good for you that you're looking at made in USA.

I don't have any experience with the MIII lite, so I don't know what to say about how they might cycle standard velocity ammo.

What kind of Federal bulk ammo do you have? The Federal Champion (blue box) coated rounds are great, even though they used to be cheap....and, I think they are all HV (over 1200 fps).

You can't beat CCI, but be careful....I bought 2 bricks of the CCI standard velocity, thinking the CCI Standard V would be better than the CCI Blazer brand. The CCI Standard V are about 1050 fps and the Blazers are over 1200. Now I've got 1000 rounds that I didn't really want. (Blazers are a really good round for semi's if you don't mind uncoated lead nose.)

Wow! If I could get that puppy chambered for .308, put a motor on it, mount it on the bow,
and go Pirate hunting.
Surprise! Surprise!

Is there a country that is known as being top of the line when it comes to firearms?

Germany has always been up at the top when it comes to making cutting edge guns that are well ahead of their time. HK is German and my favorite gun company, but there are many other great companies from there as well, Sig Sauer for example. US ranks right up at the top as well obviously.

The STG-44 is the world's first assault rifle and the father of all modern assault rifles. It's a German made gun too and it's often told that Mikhail Kalashnikov got his hands on an STG-44 and made the AK-47. If there was no STG-44 there would be no AK. Who knows how the war would have turned out had the German army deployed them earlier in the war:

Hey thanks, great information. Yes, I've picked up buck marks and Mark III's side by side at the store, I like both, but the Browning does fit real well. I've read a bunch of comparisons, and pretty much everyone says the same thin, those are the two best, but at that point it's just preference. The only reason I lean a little towards Ruger is cause I've shot them. But I like that gold trigger. Both cost about the same too.

As far as ammo, I've got both blue and red boxes of federal, also a few bricks of thunderbolt but I haven't shot any of that yet. When I first picked up my 10/22, I spent some extra time searching out any .22 I could find, and I think I have about 4000 rounds. I got it all cheap too. After the .22 market dried up even more I put it away and now when I target shoot I pay more attention to each shot and don't go through large volumes. I'll have to break out my stash and check if it's 1200fps or not.

And yes, I try to buy American when possible. I have a Khar .40, Mossberg 12g and Ruger 10/22, all built in the USA. Just cause I'm a liberal bastard doesn't mean I don't love our country.

Putting a motor on it might be illegal, but no reason you couldn't chamber that in .308. Although you might as well fire it at your fine china with how much it will already be costing to go crazy for a hour.

Do you take a marine gun on your boat? Nickel plated 12g?

Depends on what you are looking for. US and German companies are usually the best. But Italy has some great shot guns.

I'm a HK fanboy... American companies I love is S&W, Winchester and colt.

My sister in law inherited a colt python. Now that's a sexy gun!

What about getting interchanging barrels? Have fun with a .22, then change to .308 for defense.
