Just shut Oden down for the rest of the season

I'm in full agreement with keeping our core in tact. The problem is we have all these young guys surrounding our core who are not going to put us into contention in the near future.

All I advise is to wait and see what happens this summer. If nothing happens and if the team stagnates early next year, I'll be right with you in criticizing KP.

Bayless and Batum don't seem all that far away. As soon as next season I can imagine them playing significant parts for a team that can make a deep playoff run.

Well we are definitely going to need Oden to be playing much better for us to be a contender in the future. So it is going to take another year or 2 for us to get that production from our core. So that is why I don't think trading for RJ or VC would have really been beneficial for us because I don't feel the rest of our team was good enough to make that run we all want. I know you don't want to hear that, and neither do I, but I think its the truth that the rest of our team outside of Roy and maybe LMA (And Joel) aren't where they need to be for a title run. So I think we need to give them time or have a major roster overhaul and get players that are ready to go right now or by next year.

I guess my stance is that if we did trade for a Carter or RJ (again, you may not even be talking about those 2 players, but those were the two most likely) we MIGHT have made the second round. That would be awesome, but I heard MIL wanted Rudy, Travis and Raef for RJ and Ridnour, so stuff like that I don't think is worth it.

Something just clicked about Batum. Perhaps he is the reason a deal for a SF didn't go down. Perhaps this decision was made within the past two weeks. Perhaps the real target has shifted to a veteran PG, and perhaps the team wants to evaluate the available players and pounce this summer.

Basically, not making a deal for one of the SFs is a huge vote of confidence for Batum by the organization.

C'mon dude, do you honestly think we are a title contender? Why are we playing him? Just so we can win a couple games in a first-round series? Just shut him down. I want a healthy Oden for five years down the road when we are challenging for a championship!

You're trying WAY too hard.

You really are. In fact you know the answers to your own questions. You're being nothing but disingenuous and you know it.... what a useless thread.

I really think the organization is high on Batum. I'm high on Batum. Players make the biggest leap from their rookie to sophomore year in the NBA, so hopefully he will do the same. His ceiling is super high in my eyes.

FYI - We are in our "championship window" NOW. I have no doubt about that. Hopefully it's a 10-12 year window.

My thoughts on the championship window is that it goes with Oden. I think he is the key.

I agree. His defense was pretty surprisingly good from the start and, more and more, he looks more confident and in flow on offense. It's like what scouts say: He LOOKS like a basketball player. Even if his numbers aren't great yet.

I don't understand how saying we should keep our roster as it is today, is the same as benching the #1 draft pick for no reason.

I think the whole idea is that we need to develop our young players and give them the playing time to grow. Not wanting an over the hill former all-star instead of a young rotation player is not the same thing as preventing your young center from being able to grow.

I can already see the threads after we lose our next game. This place is turning into a zoo. Everyone needs to take a deep breath.

Dude, you just don't get it. Richard Jefferson was going to get us to the finals this year.

I don't think that is what he was saying at all. I think he was just trying to make a point that he was getting sick of it always being "next year" with this team.

Bullshit.

It's exactly his point.

What else would his point be other than that we didnt trade for VC, RJ, or GW?

His concept is that we might as well shut Oden down if we dont care about this season and that's absurd. He knows it, you know and I know it... and we all know why that's BS.

It's a bullshit useless thread

Some people are not happy with the youngest team in the NBA winning 10 more games each of the past two years and being on pace to do it again. Those people are never going to be happy...

What if what happens this summer is that KP pulls draft day magic and lands blue chip rookie, like Rubio? Will that satisfy you?

It wouldn't satisfy me unless Rubio came with a player that could help right away. But I think the time for Portland to build via the draft is over. Now is the time to get veteran help to push us over the top.

That, plus the lucky drafting of Duncan, is how the Spurs built a decade long contender. Get three good players in the draft, add veterans, stir.

We have done the first part, including lucking out in the draft. I wish I could be sure KP is up for the next step.

Improvement will satisfy me. Early this season people were debating whether or not the Blazers would improve on last season. Now, apparently some people are convinced (no pun intended) that the team passed on a trade that made them a lock for an NBA title. The expectations are completely unrealistic IMO. I also haven't watched nearly enough of Rubio to know whether or not drafting him would disappoint me.

At this point, however, my guess is that a veteran is what the team will be targeting this summer at either PG or SF via either FA or trade.

100% right, which is why I am in freak-out mode since he is out for the next 2 games..with him sky is the limit, without him..maybe conference finals once or twice

I hope you correct. I hope KP's gamble pays off and they are able to a quality player for low dollars.

I never in a million years thought they would win a title this year. I never really thought they would get out of the first round.

After the last 8 games, I am not sure they are even a lock for the playoffs. I am really, really hoping that the team is able to relax and play good basketball now that the trade deadline has passed. It seemed to be really be weighing on some players. We will see tomorrow if Portland comes out looking any better then they have the last two weeks.

So how is he supposed to get better if he is getting no time on the floor? Well I guess that's a dumb question because Nate yanks him out all the time when he isn't in foul trouble anyhow. :devilwink:

I think they have a chance to get to the finals without him, though it would require a couple of young players to reach their absolute ceiling along with a proven star to help B-Roy out.

Nice way to blow peoples expectations out of proportion in order to make it seem like they are sensationalizing the lack of a trade. If you go back and read peoples posts again, I believe you will see most saw it as the difference between making the playoffs, and not making the playoffs, not the difference between a non-contender and getting a ring, not the sensational situation you make it to be.

So are you going on record to say we are not going to make the playoffs because we didn't make a trade?

Which is equally irrational, really.

either this is an excellent joke thread, or you're the biggest ***** on the boards.

This would not be good for Odens finances down the road. Teams will think he's the next coming of Tmac or Bynum and good luck getting a franchise sticker put on ya then. If I was his agent I'd tell him to play. Fix knee in offseason and don't make to much of it.

Bynums injuries have been freak accidents
Tmac has a history of lingering injuries...big difference

Well if you ignored the sarcastic first post and actually read what he said in the thread maybe you'd get more of a clue (about what he is talking about). :dunno:

I think his first part was just blowing off steam.

I read every word of his irrational whinging tirade in this thread and all the others.

If he doesn't want people responding to him "blowing off steam" perhaps he should invest in a typewriter.
