How are we able to sign so many players? Didn't we have to cut Greg Brown when we did a lopsided trade? Are 10-days different?

“First off, Minaya will be a ‘3-and-D’ guy right from the start,” Moran said by phone. “High-energy guy, great defensive guy, rebounder, hit that corner 3. He makes shots. Great locker room presence and a great teammate.

“Also can finish in transition, so teams that get out and run, which is what the NBA likes.”

(Before last year's draft)

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound forward has also worked out for the Nets, Charlotte and Utah and has workouts this week with Memphis, Atlanta and Phoenix.

After transferring closer to home to Providence from South Carolina for last season, Minaya was a key member of the Big East regular-season champion Friars, who reached the Sweet 16 before losing to eventual national champion Kansas. He averaged 6.5 points and 5.5 rebounds and served as one of the best defensive players in the league.

As for what he’s trying to show NBA teams, it’s a mix of defense and offense.

“Obviously, my defense and then something I think teams are realizing is I’m way more athletic and I can shoot the ball way better than I did in college,” Minaya said. “Teams are kind of seeing that. They can see my versatility, that I can guard pretty much one through four.”

I like what Cronin is doing.
Is this Mike Schmitz making his presence known?

Minaya with the Mexico City Capitanes going 8-11, 4-4 three-pointers for 21 points.

New scouts are rockin' away...hope they find the gems out there and draft well. This guy looks legit...6'6 is good for a 3 and D guy.

What is the point of bringing these guys in?

They are fishing for legitimate NBA talent.
Every year there are a bunch of players who get overlooked for a variety of reasons. The talent level between rotation level players and gleague players can be razor thin. Finding the right 'fit' or opportunity can change a guy's playing career significantly.

I mean Mays has shown he's much better at being a PG than either Ant or Johnson have shown this entire season. Is he a better overall player? Depends on the team's needs.

It's smart to at least rummage through the Gleague talent to see if you can find a good fit.

Without these guys they couldn't field a team. Only 7 guys dressing down tonight, counting the three they signed last week. 8 if Minaya plays tonight.

You didn't hear? they're signing guys to match someone elses salary. duh.

Remember this time last year when guy like Keon and Brandon Williams were putting up some big numbers during the tank? Just can't take much from these games in my opinion. I do love Eubanks though.

Oh cool.. Figured he was gonna make the cut.. Way better use of the spot than Butler..

Im surprised Butler made it this far and didnt get picked up by a 50mph wind gust n blown away like a tumbleweed never to be seen again honestly... Exit the stage like he's wile e coyote

What is Butler gonna do on an NBA court at 7'1 and 170lbs??? Riddle me that! They should order him hotdogs n hamburgers n nachos n arena food, get that man some calories! not have him suit up to play!

pedestrian sized Chris Paul in his old age could probably lift 7'1" John Butler up over his head n walk around with him like a baby..

Minaya had 2 really excellent college basketball coaches that preached toughness n defense in Frank Martin at South Carolina and Ed Cooley at Providence..

N those Coaches retired so he actually played for both of these excellent coaches in their final season..

So I'm bigtime rooting for this kid cuz he's really a tough defender n that stood out in just the limited action this preseason..

I liked Martin but was especially a big fan of Ed Cooley who represented for us here on the east coast very well, n did a great job with a lot of players.

So now just to waive 2-3 other guys

I think Reath gets the spot.. think my guy Moses Brown gets cut :(... I saw one of you mods or staff members posted a list of 5 the other day n said 3 would go.. knew right then n there Reath and Minaya were gonna get the 2 spots bu..

Brown doesnt have as much to offer this team as he once did before we got Ayton.. I always liked watching Reath at college too so I cant hate, n he makes more sense for a younger roster that we have.. thats my 2cents..

If Brown was better on defense it wouldnt even be close too, but he's not, he's a little too slow.. But he also completely trashes the g-league competition so hes in a strange spot.. its just the state of the nba.. 3rd string C's are a dime a dozen..
